It is a worksheet development site that allows you to download worksheets in pdf format. It is still in a beta development stage, so check it out as the site is complete. The standard service is free. Discovery Channel School This is a rich site with many useful links. The name states much about the site. http://www.edheads.org/ A site that has free educational activities for your classroom. http://educate.si.edu The Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies created this site. You'll find links to the Smithsonian's resources. This includes lesson plans, features, and a resource bank. Education World This is a general site with a wide range of resources for teachers. The site is a little busy, but worth a visit. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html The Enchanted Learning web site is already known to many of the elementary teachers in District Six. It was often used as a reference site in the technology projects. This site has animal printouts, dictionaries, biographies, maps, nursery rhymes, explorers, and much more. It is a rich site worth bookmarking. There is now a $20.00 fee to use the banner free versionn of the web site. http://www.flatheadcountylibrary.org/kids.htm This is the Flathead County Library site for kids. http://www.funbrain.com/ Funbrain is a general resource site for games, books, movies, and teacher material. http://www.funtrivia.com/quizzes/ Funtrivia contains puzzles, trivia activities and quizzes.. http://www.internet4classrooms.com/parents.htm#kids This is a portal type site with links to sites that address all of the content areas. http://www.ipl2.org/ The IPL web site is being remodeled as a merger of the Internet Public Library (IPL) and the Librarians' Internet Index (LII). It provides a library type interface to provide information on varied topics. http://www.schrockguide.net/ - This is Kathy Schrock’s new site. She is now retired but maintains this site for teachers. The Library of Congress The name tells you where this link leads. This site has resources grouped by subject category. The second URL is a link to online encyclopedias. http://www.pbs.org/teachersource/ There are links to sections of this web site on Art/Literature, Health/Fitness, Math, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Early Childhood, and Library Media. http://www.pbs.org/teachers/connect/ - a new PBS site for teachers. You need to join their group to access some of the resources. It looks like it is worth the trouble to join. http://quizlet.com/ You can create flashcards or play games to practice almost any topic. http://www.refdesk.com/ This is the best all-around reference site I have seen. It covers a range of topics that are of interest to both students and adults. The site is the place to start for maps, newspapers, encyclopedias, facts, the latest news, consumer reports, or whatever you can imagine. It now has a kids link. http://www.refdesk.com/kids.html http://www.spellingcity.com Spelling City provides students with fun resources to learn spelling. http://www.teachersfirst.com This site offers extensive resources to assist teachers in all academic areas. It provides a range of information to guide teachers with multimedia and web publication. There are lesson plan resources, brain teasers, and puzzles for various ages. http://www.teachervision.com This site contains lesson plans and material organized by subject area. The site is updated monthly and seems to be a great source of ideas and material. An interesting idea is the Quiz Lab. While most of the site is free, the Quiz Lab does have a sign up fee of $29.95. You can try it to see if it is worth the money. Language Arts: "Between the Lions" A wonderful site to help 4-9 year olds learn to read. Children's Literature Web Guide The Children's Literature Guide site has links to authors, authors' biographies, and literature — a great source. http://dictionary.reference.com/ This site has a dictionary and thesaurus database, a translator, and several other reference features. https://flathead.mt.gov/library/ This is the Flathead County Library site. http://www.merriam-webster.com/ This is a free online dictionary. http://writingfix.com/Index.htm A good web site for lessons, writing prompts, and teacher resource base on the 6-Traits writing model. http://wsuonline.weber.edu/wrh/words.htm A site to help end the confusion with Homonyms, often misspelled word and other troublesome language problems. It is best for K–8. http://www.brainpop.com/math/ - math movies. http://www.figurethis.org/ Figure This! web site offers Mathematical challenges of all sorts. It is an award winning site with updates regularly. Try this - why are manhole covers round? It is a geometry question. http://www.hoodamath.com/games/ - math games. http://themathworksheetsite.com/ You can create math work sheets to be saved and printed. Music: http://www.classicsforkids.com/index.asp This site has music, music related games for kids, and links to adult resources. http://www.dsokids.com A web site sponsored by the Dallas Symphony Assoc. that has links for kids as well as adult resources. http://pbskids.org/chuck/video_jazz.html - A PBS web site that introduces students to jazz and jazz musicians. Science: Discovery Channel School This is a rich site with many useful links. The name states much about the site. eNature This site is like an online Audubon field guide. It has information and excellent pictures of over 4800 plants and animals. http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forkids/home/index.html This is the NASA web site designed for kids. The site focuses on science of course. http://www.nasaimages.org/ NASA has compiled and archived pictures at this site that are free for educational use and download. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/teachers/ NOVA Online now offers teachers quick access to more than 500 of the popular science program's educational resources in its expanded Teachers site, which includes a searchable database of program information, activities, and other classroom tools. http://www.windows.ucar.edu/ Students can find almost anything they want to know about our solar system and space at this site. This site has a huge range of information. Social Studies: http://bensguide.gpo.gov/subject.html Ben's guide to government sites is exactly that. A guide to kids' government sites. It has a little 5 second delay built into the site so Ben (Ben Franklin) can say goodbye - perhaps a bit of an irritation. CIA Reference Site Yes, this is the Central Intelligence Agency Site. The site has many maps and facts about the countries around the world. The maps are excellent. Geography at the Mining Co. This site is one of two recommended map sites. It has nothing to do with mining. Library Spot An unbelievably rich site with resources for the student, teacher, or the curious. This site has resources grouped by subject category. National Geographics Of course this is a great site — enough said. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/xpeditions/ This link, one of the many National Geographic links, takes you to the current expeditions part of their site. The page, also, has a link to an atlas page, an interactive museum, activities and lesson plans. http://www.worldalmanacforkids.com/ As you would expect, this is an online world almanac for kids. Technology: http://www.actden.com/pp This links leads to specific instructions for using PowerPoint and resources for ppt presentations. http://www.eInstruction.com This page has links to eInstruction training material for the Interwrite, ExamView, and clicker software. http://www.glef.org The George Lucas Site contains a wealth of information on teaching techniques, research on teaching, and contains links to lesson resources.
