Bylaw No. 1477
A bylaw to regulate traffic and the use of highways within the City of Langford.
The City of Langford Council in open meeting assembled enacts as follows:
1. This bylaw may be cited for all purposes as the “Truck Route Bylaw No. 1477, 2013.”
2. In this bylaw;
“Recreational vehicle” means a travel trailer, tent trailer, truck camper, motor home, fifth wheel
trailer; or other wheeled vehicle designed to be towed, hauled or driven and to be used as a
temporary accommodation in the course of recreational travel.
“Truck” means a motor vehicle having three or more axles designed or used primarily for the
transportation of goods, including a vehicle designed and used primarily for drawing other vehicles,
but excluding recreational vehicles, buses, farm vehicles, vehicles being used in emergency work by
the municipality, the provincial government or any of its agencies, or the municipal fire department,
vehicles of the Canada Post Office, and vehicles engaged in routine maintenance work by the
municipality.
3. The streets and portions of streets shown on the plan attached hereto as Schedule “A” are
designated as truck routes.
4.
a) No person shall drive a truck upon any street in the City other than Truck Routes shown
on Schedule “A”.
b) No person shall drive a truck upon any street in the City that has posted weight
restrictions.
c) Notwithstanding Subsection (a) a person may drive a truck upon any street in the City if;
i. The truck is being driven to or from a location not located on a truck route for
the sole purpose of loading or unloading goods at that location, or to a repair
shop or truck storage facility; and
ii. The truck remains on a truck route until reaching the intersection between the
truck route and other street nearest the location; and
iii. The truck returns to the truck route from the location at the intersection of the
truck route and other street nearest to the location.

5. The City Engineer will keep and maintain a current map showing the streets and sections of streets
shown as Truck Routes on Schedule “A” and shall make copies of the map available to the public at
no charge. (Bylaw No. 1652)
6. Parking Restrictions:
a) No person in charge or control of any truck shall park the truck or permit it to be parked
on any street other than a truck route, except for the loading or unloading of goods at a
location not on a truck route, and then only for the period of time reasonably necessary
for the loading or unloading of the goods, unless:
i. A parking permit has been issued to the vehicle owner; and
ii. The truck is parked so as to not impede the sight lines for motorists, or
otherwise create an unsafe situation.
b) A permit under Section a(i) may be issued by Council resolution upon provision of
satisfactory proof that the truck has been parked at the location for which the permit is
sought prior to April 1st, 2003; shall permit the owner to park the truck directly adjacent
to the residence; shall be issued only for the owner, truck and parking location stated in
the permit; and is renewable annually provided that the holder of the permit has not
contravened Section a(ii) or the terms of the permit.
c) No person shall park a trailer, semi‐trailer or pole trailer on any street unless a permit
has been issued under Section (a).
d) No person in charge or control of any truck parked in residential areas in accordance
with this Section 6 may idle the truck’s engine between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and
6:00a.m., or in contravention of City of Langford noise bylaws.
7. In case any truck is parked in violation of the provisions of this bylaw, a Bylaw Enforcement Officer
or Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer may cause the truck to be removed. The owner or other
person in charge or control of the truck shall be responsible for all towing and storage charges. Such
charges shall be in addition to any fine or penalty imposed in respect of any such violation.
8. A Bylaw Enforcement Officer or Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer is hereby authorized to
enforce this bylaw.
9. Every person who, without lawful excuse, contravenes this bylaw by willfully doing any act which it
forbids, or omitting to do any act which it requires to be done, is guilty of an offence and is liable on
summary conviction to a fine of up to $2000.00.

REPEAL
“City of Langford Truck Route Bylaw No. 617” and all amendments thereto are hereby repealed.
