Alpine Adult Ed (AAE) is the District’s Adult Education program. Board Release and GED When a student (16 or older) and his/her parents have determined that it is not longer in their best interest to attend public school, they can apply for a district board release through their school counseling center. Board released students are not longer required to attend public education – in fact, released students should no longer be on school grounds during school hours. Students desiring to take the GED Test must be board released from school and have permission from their parent to take the GED Test. The completed new state form titled: Adult Education Program and/or GED Testing Application for 16-18 year-old non-graduates, is the documentation you need to provide to examiners to take the GED, along with a current state issued picture I.D. You can obtain and fill out this form with Kip Bromley at the Alpine Adult Ed. center. If you have been living in the Alpine District boundaries and have not been enrolled or attending school at all for the past three months or longer, you may also be able to obtain a board release with Kip. According to the American Council on Education at, www.acenet.com, over 95 percent of U.S. employers consider GED graduates to be the same as traditional high school graduates in regards to hiring, salary and advancement opportunity. The majority of universities and colleges also accept the GED the same way they would accept a traditional diploma. Rarely does a college enroll a student based solely on a GED credential – other testing or preparatory classes may be needed as well. Many of Utah’s colleges require higher scores for GED Acceptance than the minimum GED passing score. Alpine Adult Ed. can help you get a high score. The State of Utah has now (as of July 1, 2009) changed the status of passing the GED from “General Education Development Test Certificate” to a “High School Completion Diploma.”
