The Country
Brazil is the largest country in both
South America and the Latin
American region. It is the world's
fifth largest country, both by
geographical
area
and
by
population. Brazil is the largest
national
economy
in
Latin
America, the world's seventh
largest
economy
at
market
exchange rates and the seventh
largest in purchasing power parity.
Brazil has a mixed economy with abundant natural resources. Tourism in Brazil is a growing
sector and key to the economy of several regions of the country. Natural areas are its most
popular tourism product, a combination of ecotourism with leisure and recreation, and adventure
travel, as well as cultural tourism. Among the most popular destinations are the Amazon
Rainforest, beaches and dunes in the Northeast Region, the Pantanal in the Center-West Region,
beaches at Rio de Janeiro and Santa Catarina, cultural tourism in Minas Gerais and business trips
to São Paulo city.

The City
Sao Paulo, popularly known as Sampa with its
ever-burgeoning population of 19 million
people, is the largest city in Brazil and the
world’s seventh largest city by population.
Culturally, Sao Paulo is a very productive,
housing some of the best museums and art
galleries in the country. On the contrast, the
city lays out a table of endless nightlife
options and fine dining venues that sets the
city to dizzying heights of modernism. The
numbers are dizzying: first-rate museums and
cultural centers (150), world-class restaurants (12,500, covering 52 types of cuisine),
experimental theaters and cinemas (420). Sampa’s nightclubs and bars are among the best on the
continent (15,000 bars make for one hell of a pub crawl) and its restaurants are among the best in
the world.
Student life
One of the main university campuses in Brazil, University City is home to 20 colleges, several
sports venues, two museums, two institutes linked to USP (IPEN and IPT) and a huge
infrastructure for professors, students and the population in general.
Students many times spend the entire day on campus, and the University City is prepared to
attend to their necessities, academic or not: classrooms, libraries for study and research, sports
courts and swimming pools, restaurants, snack bars, pharmacies, banks and a vast green area.

Travel opportunities
Get to know Brazil's underrated
culture
capital
and
financial
powerhouse,
from
its
funky
underground scene to the stellar
views atop its signature skyscraper.
São Paulo is more than a city. It is
also a state a little larger than the UK;
and while most of its interior is dull
agricultural hinterland, its coast is
magnificent; just as beautiful as Rio
de Janeiro's but far less visited by
international tourists. The northern
beaches are long and glorious and pounded by some of South America's finest surf. Brazil's
largest island, which is every bit as pristine and romantic as Ilha Grande, lies a short boat ride off
shore. The beaches further south are less beautiful but far wilder; behind them, stretching into the
neighboring state of Paraná, are the largest expanses of primary forest on Brazil's Atlantic coast.
