practice of introductory conversational skills (introducing yourself, describing others,
telling where you are from and where you live, asking simple questions).
The grammar focuses on the present tense of high-frequency verbs, simple declarative
and interrogative phrases, and the usage of “tu” versus “vous.”
Vocabulary focuses on basic greetings and conversational strategies, descriptive
adjectives, understanding addresses/phone numbers/directions, and parts of the house and
its furnishings.

conversations of an introductory nature.

involve the present and past tenses of high-frequency verbs as well as the near future.
You will develop strategies to understand more complex conversational and/or
reading structures and begin to use these in your own speech.
The vocabulary topics and cultural themes will vary from session to session.
The variety of topics will allow you to increase your vocabulary while continuing
to acquire fundamental grammatical structures necessary for successful communication.
Session A topics:
Joyeux Anniversaire! — This lesson provides tips on how to be the perfect guest — what
flowers to offer and how to compliment the food.

your class and then compare the results with a survey of French people. Any surprises?
Soyez précis! — Learn to go beyond the formalities of conversation and express your opinion.

ask for information, to offer advice, and to solve problems.
On peut toujours s'arranger! — They say that where there are three Frenchmen together, there will
be four opinions! Learn how to be persuasive and how to agree to disagree.
Une journée bien remplie! — The French expression “Métro, boulot, dodo” describes the daily
routine most of us experience. What vocabulary will you need to talk about your very busy day?
Session C topics:
Un certain savoir-faire. — This lesson will make you savvy. You'll learn all those
prepositions that indicate place, the silent language of gestures, and the secrets of the three verbs
"to know.”
Vouloir, c'est pouvoir! — “Where there's a will, there's a way.” Once again, you’ll practice asking
those important questions, understanding the answers, and saying what you really think is
important.
