Embroidered Hanky Needle Case
Wimpole Street Creations embroidered hanky
Wimpole Street Creations 4” square hemstitched doily
Craft size piece of white felt
15” piece of 3/8” coordinating ribbon
9” of narrow lace trim
Decorative button
6 yards of coordinating embroidery floss
cut
Chenille needle
5”
Matching thread
Fabric glue, optional
1. Press the hanky. Cut away 5” as shown. Cut a piece of felt the same size as the remaining hanky piece.
2. Pin the narrow lace on the right side of the hanky as shown in the photo. Pin the hanky right side down on the felt.
3. Cut a 3” piece from the ribbon for a button loop. Fold the ribbon and place between the layers at the center of the
back cover with the loop toward the inside. Pin in place.
4. Stitch around the hanky, very close to the hemmed edges and along the cut edge, catching the lace trim and button
loop in the stitching. Leave an opening to turn right side out. Hand-stitch the opening closed. Press the seams.
5. Blanket-stitch around the outside of the case and thread the floss through the narrow lace. Fold the case and mark
the center back fold. Mark two places on the fold approximately 1-1/2” apart. Thread the ribbon through the marks
from the inside and tie into a bow on the outside. Fold over 1/2" on one edge of the square doily to form a cuff and
sew on the inside back cover for a pocket.
6. Close the case to determine the placement of the outside button on the front cover to align with the loop.
7. Sew or glue buttons, yo-yos and other trims to the inside of the case to embellish as desired.
