Missouri Options for Military Credit – 2015 Missouri will accept (pursuant to 20 CSR 2200‐4.020 (1)(B) graduation from the Army Practical Nurse Program for the academic requirements for licensure as an LPN. The Missouri Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional land Surveyors and Professional Landscape Architects accepts and counts military experience toward requirements for licensure. This Board reported to routinely get a lot of applications from military personnel for the profession of engineering. This Board exempts all active duty military from continuing education requirements for renewal of their licensure. Contact person: Judy Kemper at [email protected] or 573‐751‐5063 The Missouri Board of Counselors, Marital and Family Therapists reports review of graduate course work to determine applicability to licensure by a specific committee. The graduate degree remains a requirement. Regarding the required hours and years of post‐degree supervised experience, both committees request documentation and may exercise greater latitude in evaluating such experiences. Research is conducted to ensure that areas of education and post‐
degree experience are “substantially the same” by definition of area and of study, content and hours. Military credit is then applied as applicable. The Missouri State Board of Nursing accepts graduation from the Army Practical Nurse Program to meet this licensure requirement. Contact person: Lori Scheidt at [email protected] or 573‐751‐0681 The Missouri Board of Real Estate Commission reports that for initial issuance of a real estate license there is no exemption for the 72‐credit hour pre‐licensure schooling for service members. There is an exemption in the statute that would allow this Board to wave all or part of the schooling for anyone of they provide proof of other educational background or experience acceptable to this Board that is deemed comparable. Continuing education requirements are waved for those on active duty upon receipt of proof of orders. Contact person: Joe Denkler at [email protected] or 573‐751‐2628 Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO – military educational and training credit can be transcripted through the Community College of the Air Force (CCFA), the Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS) and the Sailor/Marine American Council on Education Registry Transcript (SMART). Credit will be awarded based on credit recommendations for military schools or American Council on Education (ACE) occupational credit recommendations. Jefferson College evaluates credit from CCAF in the same way as credit from any other accredited college or university. Academic credit may be awarded only for courses that directly apply to the student’s declared certificate or degree program. Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS) and the Sailor/Marine American Council on Education Registry Transcript (SMART) – the Missouri Credit for Prior Learning Model – as indicated by AARTS and SMART – is applied for military occupational experience and training. Evidence of completion of courses (ACE Transcripts) is reviewed by the Student Service center. A maximum of 30 credit hours may be applied toward an undergraduate Maryville University degree. Contact person: Dr. Elizabeth Buck at [email protected] or 314‐529‐9453 Mercy College of Nursing in Springfield, MO – offers a Paramedic to Associate Degree in Nursing track that awards 18 credits toward the nursing degree and requires that pre‐requisite course work is completed and an additional 36 credit hours of nursing course work is done to achieve the degree. This is an option to service members that are EMTs and have the option to achieve certification as a paramedic prior to applying to this program. All credits are carefully evaluated and accepted according to applicability to the respective degree. Contact person: Dr. Kathryn Hope at [email protected] or 417‐836‐5310 Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, MO – Service members/veterans may receive academic credit for military/educational training earned while serving in the Armed Forces based on evaluation and recommendation for the American Council on Education (ACE). Veterans requesting credit for military experience must submit an official copy of their ACE transcript – credits are evaluated/awarded that count toward certificate and/or degree requirements. The school reports to follow guidelines provided by the current Guide to the Evaluation of Education Experiences in the Armed Services, prepared by the American Council of Education (ACE). Two hours of PE credit are awarded upon presentation of discharge papers. Up to 30 credit hours can be achieved through CLEP – for those that achieve satisfactory scores. In addition to that North Central Missouri College reports to accept experiential credit if a course is listed as part of the Experiential Credit Program, the individual has not taken the course previously and CLEP is not available. Park University accepts military credit according to the ACE recommendations provided. Park University also evaluates credits taken by service members as part of the military occupational specialty. Their Principles of Instruction (POI) documentation is reviewed, seat hours are evaluated and a determination is made if credits are applicable to the respective degree program. Park University also reports that for the Air Force the school takes credits from service members Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript. Generally 4 semester hours of PE and their Pay Grade are awarded along with course by course evaluation. Page 2 of 4 For Army, Navy, Marine and Coast Guard – all are guaranteed 4 semester hours of natural Science for their PE, Pay Grade or Occupation along with service schools they have attended, as indicated on their Joint Service Transcript – credits are awarded according to ACE recommendations. Park University reports to have large presence of enrollment by members of the Armed Forces. Information indicates that Rockhurst University evaluates military transcripts according to American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations and awards up to 32 credit hours for military credit toward completion of a degree program at their school. Service members can earn 2 hours of PE credit (as elective for their Associate Degree of Arts) and up to 12 credit hours of restricted electives for their Associate Degree of Arts. For the Associate Degree in Nursing military credit is reviewed by the Allied Health Department and credits are awarded as applicable. The school reports that generally not a lot of military credit transfers into nursing courses. Contact person: Dr. Rhonda Hutton‐Gann at [email protected] or 660‐596‐7228 Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO – reports to offer a comprehensive package for veterans, to include but not limited to the following: In‐state tuition for service members, veterans and their dependents, deferment of tuition and enrollment‐related fees until the end of term for CH31 and CH33 VA Education Benefit recipients, maximum credit hours for military service granted, an ACT/SAT is not required for admission for military and veteran students who are 21 years or older or have at least 24 transferable credit hours from an accredited college or university, and admission fee refund, after successful completion of the first semester. The new curriculum was approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing during their September 2015 Board meeting. Roll‐out of this new program option is projected in the near future; additional information will be provided as it becomes available. Contact person: Kristen Spencer at [email protected] or 417‐455‐5505 Page 3 of 4 Missouri Pilot Course for Military Progression – there is current consideration for development of a pilot course that would allow any person that completed military health care training – Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program (Navy and Air Force), Air Force Independent Duty Medical Technician or Army Health Specialist to bridge to completion of the practical nurse curriculum in much more facilitated manner. The Missouri pilot course would be modeled after the Veteran’s Bridge Course to Licensure as a Practical Nurse developed by the GateWay Community College (GWCC) in Phoenix, AR. Permission from GWCC to utilize materials provided has been attained.
