2) This is John’s trip to school each day.
:
John leaves home and catches the train at the train station. He then walks to the taxi
rank and catches a taxi to school. After school he takes the bus
directly home.
a) How far is the station from John’s home?
Home to station = 70mm
Scale: 5mm = 1km
Distance: 70mm ÷ 5mm = 14km
b) How far is the school from the station?
Station to school = 35mm
Scale: 5mm = 1km
Distance: 35mm ÷ 5mm = 7km
c)
How far does John travel each day in total?
Home to station = 70mm. Station to school = 35mm. School to home = 70mm
70mm + 35mm + 70mm = 175mm. Scale 5mm = 1km
175mm ÷ 5mm = 35km
3) Using cm2 paper, draw a scale diagram of your classroom using the scale: 1cm = 0,5m.
