Warm Up
Set Up
- 30 x 30 square.
- Players bibbed into two teams.
- Each player with a ball.
Instructions
- Players dribble within square taking as many touches as possible.
- Players will be given 2 turns to work on (Progressively). ‘The Drag Back’ (whoosh),
and ‘Step Over’ (Yeehaa).
- After practice players will be encouraged to dribble toward each other and turn away
using one of the moves.
Coaching Points
- Disguise will be the main focus of for the ‘preparation’ and ‘action’ of the turn/s.
- Acceleration will be the main focus of the ‘recovery’ of the skill.
Practice 1 - Quickfire
Set Up
Both players face each other. The defending player starts between the top gate. The
attacking player starts in the middle with the ball..
Instructions
On the coaches command the attacking player will perform a turn and race for the cone gate
behind. If they cross the line without being caught 10 points are awarded. The progression is
shown in option 2 above. Players dribble the ball in and turn, upon the turn the defending
player is releases. For more advanced players tackling can be introduced instead of the tag on
the shoulder
Coaching Points
- Reiterate points on acceleration and disguise
- For progression small touches when dribbling in and large touches on the way out.
Fun Game – 1 v 1 Tag
Set Up
- 30 x 30 square
- All players with a ball.
Instructions
Players are paired up within an area with a ball each. Player 1 has a minute to tag (10 points a
tag) Player 2 as many times as possible on the shoulder. During the game both players must
retain possession of their football the whole time and if the player being chased is tagged
he/she has a three second head start before play continues.
Coaching Points
- Awareness of pressure
- Reiterate points on disguise and acceleration

Set Up
- 20 x 40 pitch with goals
- 4v4 with 4 wall players (3 teams)
Instructions
- 4 v 4 game with wall players.
- Wall players cannot be pressed or tackled, leading to players receiving the ball under
pressure where a move or turn will be required.
- Switch wall players in regularly
