MINA'BENTE OCHO NA LIHESLATURAN GUAHAN 2006 (SECOND) Regular Session Executive Committee Resolution No. -1J..-1 Introduced by: Relative to recognizing May 2006 as "Guam Nurses Month" and acknowledging the contributions of individuals in the nursing profession to the people of Guam. 1 2 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF I MINA' BENTE OCHO NA LIHESLATURAN GlIAHAN: 3 WHEREAS, approximately two-million nine hundred thousand 4 (2,900,000) registered nurses in the United States comprise our nation's 5 largest health care profession; and 6 WHEREAS, the Guam Board of Nurses Examiners has issued 7 licenses to four hundred eighty (480) Registered Nurses and one hundred 8 five (105) Licensed Practical Nurses, thus making the nursing the largest 9 health care profession on Guam; and 10 WHEREAS, the depth and breadth of the registered nursmg 11 profession meets the different and emerging health care needs of the 12 people on Guam; and 13 WHEREAS, the American Nurses Association, the voice for all 14 registered nurses, including those on Guam, is working to chart a new 1 fH I: 1 course for a healthier nation that relies m the increasing delivery of 2 primary and prevention health care; and 3 4 WHEREAS, the renewed emphasis on primary and preventive health care will require better utilization of all registered nursing resources; and 5 WHEREAS, Professional Registered Nursing has been demonstrated 6 to be an indispensable component in the safety and quality of care of 7 hospitalized patients; and 8 WHEREAS, the demand for registered nurses will be greater than 9 ever because of the aging population, the continuing expansion of life- 10 sustaining technology and the explosive growth of home care services; and 11 12 WHEREAS, more qualified nurses will be needed in the future to meet the increasing needs of health care consumers 13 RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of I Mina' Bente Ocha na 14 Liheslaturan Guahan does hereby, on behalf of I Liheslaturan Guahan and the 15 people of Guam, recognize May 2006 as "Guam Nurses Month" in honor of 16 the individuals in the nursing profession and their contributions to health 17 care on Guam; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of I Mina' Bente Ocha na 19 Liheslaturan Guahan does hereby, on behalf of I Liheslaturan Guahan and the 20 people of Guam, acknowledge the Guam Nurses Association, and all the 21 individuals in the nursing profession, for their contributions to the overall 22 health care on Guam and their tireless commitment to the improvement of 23 health care on Guam; and be it further 24 RESOLVED, that the Speaker certify and the Secretary of the 25 Legislature attest to the adoption hereof and that copies of the same be 2 1 thereafter transmitted to Dr. Maria I. Salomon, President, Guam Nurses 2 Association and Head, Department of Nursing, School of Nursing, Social 3 Work and Health Services, University of Guam; to Lillian Perez-Posadas, 4 Hospital Nursing Services Administrator, Guam Memorial Hospital 5 Authority; to Margarita Gay, Administrator of Bureau of Family Health 6 Care and Nursing Services, Department of Public Health and Social 7 Services; 8 Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse; and to the Honorable 9 Felix P.
