From the Director’s Desk
Absalom Jones was presented with the second place trophy for the 2015/2016
Wii Bowling season. We want to thank all our teams for another great year.
We are ready to welcome summer after all that rain! Isn’t it nice seeing all
the pretty flowers? I am excited to get the garden started.
This summer we will add a second day for the swimming aerobics club. It will
be outdoors at the Surratte Pool. It is a beautiful pool and Sandra and Sheila
were the perfect hostesses last year. Times are Mondays and Thursdays at
10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Bus transportation from the center.
We are off to a busy summer as always. Stop by and pick a newsletter.
You may want to join us for a trip or activity at the center.
The Staff will honor volunteers every three months. In April we honored
Joey, Mickey and Stephen for their outstanding help at the center
Regards, Joan

Senior of the Month: Pat Merritt
Pat Merritt joined the center last December. She was born on November 6, in Shamokin, PA. She
now lives in Newport.
Pat worked 39 years at Woodworth’s in various capacities including waitress, luncheonette and
coffee shop manager. She was also a bookkeeper, payroll, and cash manager. She has four children
three boys and one girl. Pat has seven grandchildren four boys and three girls.
Her favorite TV show is any detective or police show, especially Blood Bloods and Criminal
Minds. Pat’s favorite food is prime rib. Pat likes to vacation at Ocean View, DE and in Maine.
Does Pat have any hobbies? Well here is the list: embroidery, pinochle, bingo, board games
(especially up words and scrabble), and also listening to James Patterson and Stuart Woods books
on tape.
Lunch with a famous person would be Pat’s grandmother Sophie, because she raised her.
Thanks for sharing with the Center—as you know we’re all family here.
We are awarding a monthly gift to a lucky birthday person. Every time the birthday person for that
month comes to the Center for a meal or trip, we will enter their name in a drawing for a gift to be
awarded at our birthday party. So the more times you get your name in the basket, the better
chance you will have to win!
