P
I am going to
write a number in
expanded form.
E
I will use my place
value chart to find
the value of each
number.
A
I filled in the rest of the
columns with zeros to
show the value of each
number.
A
I drew a place value chart
and placed the numbers
from my numeral in the
correct spots on the chart.
C
I know I am right because I checked
my work by writing it a second way
and the numbers lined up into the
original number I was expanding.
Value – the amount that a number is worth. For example, in the
number 4,578, the 4 is worth 4,000.
Place Value – The place on the place value chart that the number
is in. Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands or hundred
thousands.
***Students should also be able to write numbers in order from
least to greatest and greatest to least and compare two
numbers with these symbols. <, >, =. They should also be able
to explain how and why they ordered the numbers as they did.
P
E
I am going to compare
two numbers.
A
Once I have found two digits that
are different, I decide which one is
bigger and write that number down.
I continue this process until I have
ordered the numbers correctly.
A
I will use my knowledge of
the place value chart to
decide which number is
bigger.
I start by comparing the first
digits in both numbers. If they
are the same, I compare the
next two digits.
C
I know I am right because I checked my work by
writing it a second way and comparing each place
value.
