FROM THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
Our first even is behind us, let's begin anew.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day was a great suc:ess thanks to all our citizens, employees and friends
)f East Spencer.
We are asking everyone to join on of the
:ommittees or advisory Boards in order to help move
3ast Spencer forward. You may say, "Well I just
lon't have the time. - Let me explain; what if you
lave only two hours to give a week. Your neighbor
nay have three hours, and someone else may have
ly e hours. If we put those hours together; that's ten
lours a week or forty hours a month to fulfill a proect for East Spencer. In other words it becomes more
han enough.

Town Administrator
The Board Town and administrative staff are
working on a number of thin gs to improve the quality of life in East Spencer and the appearance of our
community.
Our snowflake Christmas lights are also winter season decorations. Therefore we are leaving
these lights turned on from around 6 PM to around
midnight through the month of February. We believe they boost spirits and brighten our long winter
evening.
Our spotlights on Town hall will soon be
replaced and new flags will be installed on our fla g

God tells us in Luke 19:17, "that if we are
'aithful stewards over the little things we have, he will
nultiply: not only to bless us with more than enough,
)ut so that we can meet more needs.
So let each
)f you make time and find those hours to back to East

clock flying of our flags.
As spring approaches we will be exploring
seasonal banners for our light poles and landscaping
for selected areas. such as public properties and
Town entrance signs. Little by little, we can all
make a
difference by making a statement.

DUNBAR HIGH SCHOOL -1925
830 S. Long Street E. Spencer
The Dunbar High School was named
in tribute to poet PAUL LAURENCE
DUNBAR (7872-1906). With the
advent of integration in 1969, it
ceased operating as a high school but
remained open as North Rowan
Middle until a new school replaced it
in the 1990s. Shady Grove Baptist
Church purchased the property in
2009. It's now known as Paul Laurence Dunbar Business and Community Enrichment Center.
