Clothes & hygiene
Everyone must use the clothes provided by the hospital, which
can be found at the linen storage on the ward. These clothes
should be changed every day. Dirty laundry are thrown in the
laundrybags in the changing rooms.
You should always work according to the general routines of
hygiene, to prevent contamination. Good handhygiene is of major
importance, always use antisepti before and after work with the
patients. Notice that your nails should be short and polish is not
accepted. Do not use rings, watches or other hanging jewelry. If
you have long hair it must be set up. Aprons are to be used in
contact with the patients and beds. Do not use strong perfume.
Locker
Lockers are located in the changing rooms outside the ward.
Available lockers for females are in room B & D. For male
personel the changing rooms are located on the ground level in
room D, or on level 1 in between stairs C & B.
Keycards
Keycards to the lockers are to be borrowed during your time at
the ward. It is handed out at the first shift in exchange for a
signature. You are responsible for the return of it once your are
finished.
Name tag
Use the name tag given to you by the University, this for the sake
of both patients and colleagues.
Attendance/Non-attendance
As student, there is an obligatory attendance. A shift is normally
8 hours and you work 32 hours/week on your practice. Absence
due to sickness or other reason is to be informed to your tutor at
the ward on phone number 010-1043109 or 010-1042692
Parking card
Parking card is available if you use your own vehicle to work.
Parking is allowed at the marked places. A permit is given to you
for the time being here.
Confidentiality
Remember that you have a professional secrecy towards
everything regarding the patients. This also applies when not on
duty and after you have finished your stay.
Smoking
Smoking is only permitted at given places, both for patients and
staff. If you do smoke you have to change into private clothes
before.
Restaurant
Lunch is available at the restaurant above the main entrance. It’s
opening hours is between 11.00-13.30. There is also possible to
buy food at the cafeteria and the kiosk.
Staff-room
There is free coffee in the staff-room. Do you have lunch box with
you, there is a refrigerator for your use. Make sure you do not
leave behind old food. Microwave is available.
When you are finished having coffee or lunch make sure you take
responsibility of washing up your dishes or put them in the
washing machine. Be tidy so everyone can enjoy. And remember
to bring home your empty lunch box.
Medicine management
During your stay here you are allowed to prepare and administer
medicine under supervision. Your superviser are the one
responsible for the management of medicine and also to give you
the proper instructions of how to do it.
Documentation
Documentation is done according to the model of VIPS. We use
the computer system called Cosmic. More information about this
are given to you during your introduction.
Occupational therapists document ADL-assesments according to
Sunnaas index, and are documented in Cosmic.
Doctor interns use Cosmic for daily notes and Speech-mike to
record medical reports. More information are given to you by your
supervisor.
Do you have questions about this some of them might be asked to

Everything documented in Cocmis are to confirmed by any of
your supervisor.

Discharges. Preparations for surgery. Time for coffee.

Lunch for patients. Also plan your own lunches.

Evening shift starts by reading report. Oral report and
check-up with day shift. Pick up patients at the recovery
area (supervisor has to join). General care. Post-surgery
supervision.

Coffee for the patients. Evaluation for the day shift. First
week, Thursday, lecture from anesthesiologist.

Dinner for patients. General care and medical
administration. Plan you own dinner.

Evening coffe for patients.
