Phase 2, Full Liquids
START: Approximately 3-4 days after surgery
END: Approximately 14 days after surgery
EATING TIPS:
1. Eat and Drink Separate: Eat small meals with sips of liquids taken between meals.
2. Protein: Eat protein first
 1 cup (8oz) of protein beverage can take about 1 hour to drink
 Aim for at least 60 grams of protein per day
3. Fluid intake: Aim for 64 ounces (8-8 cups of fluid). Sip 1-2 oz every 10-15 minutes.
 Take slow, small sips—NO GULPING
 Start hydrating 15-30 minutes after meals on water or sugar-free liquids.
4. Portion sizes: Remember, you stomach can only hold ~2-4 oz (1/4-1/2 cup of food or
liquids at a time.
5. Take your Time! Eat slow and chew food well to make sure you will tolerate foods.
6. Continue no straws, carbonation, or caffeine
7. Start your Vitamin and Mineral Supplements

 What: Consistency of yogurt—soft, low-sugar foods that are LIQUID OR SEMI-LIQUID
 Protein Meal Supplements (4-8oz)
 Add one new food at a time to assess tolerance.

 Caution with breads, pastas, crackers. These
foods tend to fill you up quickly and can leave a
“stuck” feeling in your chest.
