Human Organ System Research Project Dear Parents, As part of the Grade 5 Science unit on Human Organ Systems, your child will be completing a research project and creating a brochure to share with the class. It will last 2 weeks, with the due date being Friday, October 1st. Your child will be researching the ___________________ system. All projects will contain labeled diagrams and drawings of their organ system. All projects will also include written components that will address the following requirements: What is the role of your organ system in the body? Describe the basic structure and functions of the major organs in your organ system. Identify and describe one relationship between your organ system and another. Identify common diseases or disorders that affect your organ system. What effects do social and/or environmental factors have on your organ system and one’s health in general? Create list of sources used to find information for your project. We have reviewed the web graphic organizer and your child will use it to gather information for their project. Completed webs are due Wed., Sept. 22nd. Students will transfer the information from their webs into a brochure template. The rough copy of their brochure is due Monday, Sept. 27th. The children must take the information they have gathered and create informational paragraphs in their own words. (Students have listened to an explanation and discussed the topic of plagiarism. Please see http://kidshealth.org/kid/feeling/school/plagiarism.html# for more information.) They will create a list of sources used to find information. The final copy will be due on Friday, October 1st. It will include written components and labeled diagrams. A list of sources is to be handed in with the brochure. Spelling, grammar, creativity, neatness, appearance, accuracy and completeness of information will be evaluated. Projects will be presented to the class during the first week of October. Students will use the Elmo projector to share their brochures with the class. Please see the back of this form for the project rubric.
