Parking in Downtown Holland
This brochure contains information on Downtown
Holland’s parking system. Included are explanations
of employee, residential and customer parking
policies, as well as a detailed map showing available
parking areas for overnight residential parking,
employee parking during work hours, and customer
parking. The system is designed to accommodate all
users, and your adherence to these policies is
necessary to ensure a parking system that functions
optimally. Please review this information and contact
the Downtown Development Authority office with
any questions or comments. Thank you!
Downtown’s Parking System At-A-Glance
Downtown’s parking system is managed by the
Downtown Development Authority (DDA). The system’s
annual budget is received from property assessments
within the C-3 district. The parking budget is used for
maintenance items (such as lot striping, paving, lighting
and landscaping), rental payments to lot owners and
other land improvements related to parking.
The DDA’s Downtown Parking Board meets monthly to
consider parking requests and set policy for
recommendations to the DDA Board and City Council.
Employee Parking Policies
As a Downtown employee you are part of a unique
environment that is the heart of the Holland community
—Downtown. Whether you have been part of
Downtown for many years, or are a new member of the
Downtown Holland family, welcome!
You are one of thousands of employees working in
Downtown’s retail, restaurant, service, cultural,
entertainment and industrial businesses. Your contributions are valued and appreciated, as are those of Downtown’s residents, property owners, investors and patrons.
The Downtown Parking Map indicates the location and
designation of Downtown’s municipally managed
parking lots. There are sixteen (16) Downtown parking
lots. Lots are either designated as customer lots
exclusively, or as customer and employee lots. This
means that only Downtown’s customers are allowed to
park in “C” lots, but both customers and employees
are allowed to park in “CE” lots.
Another important aspect to employee parking is onstreet use. All on-street spaces along 8th Street, and
between 7th and 10th on River, Central, College and
Columbia Avenues, as well as 10th Street between River
and Central are designated for customer use only.
One method for educating and informing employee
parkers about their abuses is the “Reduce the Abuse”
brochure. It explains that a Downtown colleague has
noticed that an employee parker is parking inappropriately. Using a parking space for a day most likely
prevents a shopper or Downtown patron from finding a
convenient space, resulting in lost business to
Downtown merchants. If you see a fellow Downtown
employee abusing the parking system, just ask the DDA
office for a “Reduce the Abuse” brochure to put on the
vehicle’s windshield. If you receive such a card, please
adhere to the friendly request and park in appropriate
parking areas.
Residential Parking Policies
Welcome Downtown overnight parker! You’re part of a
special group, and we’re glad you’ve chosen Downtown
as your home. Our goal is to make Downtown overnight
parking convenient and easy.
Designated Lots and Spaces
The parking lots in Downtown are designated for
overnight and daytime parkers. Thus, the two basic lot
designations are “Overnight” for residents (short- and
long-term), and “Customer/Employee” for Downtown’s
customers, retail and office workers. (All on-street
parking is reserved for customers.) The Downtown
Parking Map indicates overnight lot designations. Also
indicated are lots that provide customer only parking,
“C”, and customer and employee parking, “CE”.
Overnight permit holders are allowed to park in any
designated overnight lots within the Downtown area.
The difference between long-term and short-term
designations is as follows:
Long-term — Overnight permit holders may park their
vehicles in the designated spaces within these lots for
a 24 hour period.
Short-term — Overnight permit holders may park their
vehicles in these lots between the hours of 8:00 pm and
9:30 am only, Monday-Saturday, and all day on Sunday.
Overnight parking registration
1. All Downtown overnight parking registration is done
at the DDA office.
2. Overnight parking applicants must show proof of
vehicle registration when applying for an overnight
permit, or permit will be denied.
3. A permit is valid only for the vehicle and license
plate number noted on the permit application. Any
changes must be approved by the DDA and the City
Police Department.
4. The permit (sticker) shall be displayed and affixed in
the lower left-hand corner (driver’s side) of your

5. Signing the permit application verifies that you have

contents therein.
