Kohzoh Iidaka History of TOKUSAI TungMoly Co., LTD. Special Thin-Wires Research Institute Co., Ltd. was founded in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, in September 1950, and started the manufacturing and marketing of various metal materials for electron tubes, including tungsten. Built the Yaguchi works in Ohta-ku, Tokyo in 1956, and Nagaoka works at Kotobuki-cho, Nagaoka city in Niigata Pref. in 1967 along with the expansion of our business scale. In 1971, we built a new Higashi-Zaoh plant, and concentrated all works in this Nagaoka Factory in 1973 . IIn 1974, we expanded the business scale of tungsten molybdenum thin wire business, with the capital participation of Toshiba, and built additional buildings in the Nagaoka works in 1984 and 1985. Aiming at the top market share of tungsten and molybdenum wire, we have completed a new plant in the Nagaoka Nambu Industrial Park located in the southern part of the city Nagaoka, and the transfer to the plant in 1990. In the production of tungsten wires, we have become a leading company with quality, technology and skills. We have consolidate our manufacturing technology to make thin tungsten wires of the diameter up to 2.5 micron. We are striving for the response to customer's request, by applying our manufacture technology of ultra thin tungsten and molybdenum wires to the manufacture of thin wires for special electronic parts materials made of brass, beryllium copper, SUS, titanium alloy, nickel alloy, and precious metal alloys, through our focusing at new business fields. We changed our company name as TOKUSAI TungMoly Co., LTD. at the 40th anniversary in June 1991. We also acquired ISO 9002 in 1998 for the purpose of quality maintenance and manufacture system reinforcement. In 2003, we aimed at the grade up to ISO 9001 to obtain customers' reliability. Sep 1950 Kohzoh Iidaka inaugurated the Special Thin Wire Research Institute in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, and started the production of tungsten wire for Christmas electric bulbs. Started the production of tungsten wire for Christmas electric bulbs. Jul. 1956 Built the Yaguchi works in Ohta-ku, Tokyo. Aug.1659 Developed a multi-stage tungsten wire drawing machine. Jul. 1962 Started molybdenum wire drawing. Aug.1967 Built the Nagaoka works in Kotobuki-cho, Nagaoka City, Niigata Pref. Oct. 1971 Built a new work in Higashi-Zaoh, Nagaoka City. Started the production of tungsten wire for boron-filament. Oct. 1973 Built an additional building at the Nagaoka Kotobuki-cho works and concentrated the production divisions. Closed the Yaguch works. Started tungsten and molybdenum wire drawing from the wire of diameter φ1.0mm. Oct. 1974 Toshiba acquired capital in TOKUSAI to increase our company's capital to 27 million yen. Jun. 1981 Increased our capital to 33.5 million yen. Oct. 1985 Built an additional building at the Nagaoka Higashi-Zaoh works. Sep.1990 Build new works in Nan-yoh, Nagaoka City, and moved all production departments to the new works. Jun. 1991 Changed the company name to TOKUSAI TungMoly Co., LTD. Feb. 1996 Started W-PP production. Sep.1997 Built an additional secondary building in the Nagaoka Nan-yoh works and expanded the production line for plating and W-PP line. Mar. 1998 Acquired ISO 9002 certification. Sep.2000 Celebrated the 50th anniversary of the foundation. Established the parts products department, and started the new material business. Mar. 2003 Acquired ISO 9001 certification. Jul. 2006 Expanded production space for plating and parts machining line. Nov. 2007 Moved the headquarters from Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo to Nagaoka-shi, Niigata Pref. for streamlining of operation. Mar. 2012 Transferred the production of WMO wire, pin rods, platinum clad products to TOKUSAI from Toshiba Material. 2 Products from NAGAOKA to the Word Pursuit of High-functional Parts and Materials by Technological Group with the DNA of Originality and Ingenuity We are expanding our business based on our super thin wire manufacturing technology of tungsten and molybdenum as the typical material with high mechanical strength and high melting point. We have been designing the most optimum working machine basically made by ourselves as the motto, establishing the manufacturing line to provide the products to respond to customer's request. Materials are the main stay of industry and essential for product realization. They are requested to have the performance fit to the product. Although we are not a material manufacture, we have been developing the working technology to make the best use of the material. Our products are used regularly in various fields for more than a half century. Further, we are challenging a new possibility in cooperation with material manufacturers. To realize the product satisfying the customer's request, we will make a growth as the company of technological group with originality and ingenuity to serve for customers. Kohzoh Iidaka was born and grew up in Nagaoka City. People in this place thought training of young very important and this monument symbolizes the spirit of personnel training of Nagaoka. In the middle of 19th century, there was a nation wide war called Boshin War in a social confusion accompanying to the modernization of Japan. And the Nagaoka-Han (feudal clan) was hit by famine under the influence of this war. The neighboring Han could not ignore the miserable state of Nagaoka-Han and sent a hundred straw bags of rice as stopgap measures. When every Hanshi (vassal) urged to divide that rice and claimed his share, the then Karoh (the Chief Retainer) Kobayashi Torasaburo did not agree to do so from the following farsighted ideas. This spirit of education is inherited to date in Nagaoka. The "Hundred Rice Bags" monument (Relief rice monument) Table of contents 1. Tungsten has a high mechanical strength even in a high temperature environment. It has the melting point of 3410 degree C, the highest among all metals, low vapor pressure, high mechanical strength, and low out-gas at high temperature. Thin tungsten wire is heated and worked using a diamond dice with black lead as a lubricant. Our product TOKUSAI Wire was established by the technologies backed up with customer's needs and our experience for more than 60 years, and obtained the reliance of customers both domestic and overseas. We can respond flexibly to the order made size of individual request of the customer. Store them in a dry and cool atmosphere with the humidity less than 60% and the temperature lower that 28 degrees C. Use of desiccators is preferred. Be careful not to handle finished wires with bare hands. Put wire spool with its flange upright. Otherwise, spooled wires get loosened easily and entangled by slight vibration or rapid heat change. Preferably, line them up in upright position in a wooden box. Exposure of the surface-finished wires to air causes oxidization and discoloration. Even if they are treated by hydrogen furnace for reduction, their surface becomes matte to cause the deterioration of elongation. We recommend electrolytic polishing to maintain the elongation. Do not rewind the spooled wires as a rule. In case of unavoidable need, keep the winding tension not to exceed 10% of the tensile strength of the wire to prevent the degradation of straightness. This warning applies to all wires that demand straightness. To remove graphite layers from as drawn wire, perform heat treatment at 1500 deg C. with wet hydrogen. ◆ Do not use nitrogen gas when molybdenum wires are heat treated at over 600 deg C. ◆ Hydrogen furnaces for heat treatment of thin wires requires cleanliness. Perform careful maintenance. ◆ Remove the discolored refractories with new ones in furnace repair work, without reuse of them. ◆ At the very beginning of the furnace running after its installation or repair work, perform full runningin operation to avoid contamination from refractories. ◆ Do not put the parts and jigs of other materials in the heat treating furnace for tungsten and molybdenum.
