WINCHESTER RURAL SCHOOL
WELCOME
SCHOOL NEWS
DEAR PARENTS
ASSEMBLY
All welcome to our whole school
It is hard to believe that there is only assembly today. We have moved the
three weeks to go until end of Term 1 time back 10 minutes, to start at 2pm.
and the Easter holiday break.
Only ONE more assembly this term:
We hope you join us for the assembly
this week as there are a few photos to Wk 9: Wednesday 1 April, 2pm, with
share from recent activities.
Sharing Hour in classrooms from 1-2pm.
PTA UPDATE
A small group of parents attended the
meeting on Tuesday night. We farewell
and thank Amanda McCone for her role
as Secretary. Sue Kerslake will take over
as the new Secretary at the next
meeting. Leanne Reid continues her
most efficient role as Treasurer. And
then we are stuck, as we do not have a
Chairperson.
The next meeting is the PTA AGM,
7.30pm Tuesday 28 April. If we do not
have a Chairperson, the PTA is likely to
disband. This would be disappointing,
considering we have 109 families and
we just need a small group of about 5-6
people to get together. We only meet
once a term, so it is not a big
commitment. This is a fun way to meet
other parents at the school and show an
interest in your child’s learning.
Our school has always had good
community spirit and support, however,
the lack of support on the PTA is of
concern. Without the PTA, costs for
activities would increase dramatically,
e.g. our ice-skating trip would cost about
$60-$80 instead of $10.
WINCH-WISE KID
Congratulations to
Jack Harper. You are
showing great
initiative on the
school bus. You see
a need and help out
where you can. You are a
responsible Winch-wise kid!

Clandeboye Preschool.
What a busy few weeks we have had at preschool. Firstly with Bike wise month, where children have been given
opportunities to learn about road and bike safety. We had bike races, learnt how to cross the road safely and that we
must always wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter.
There has also been a huge interest in music, dance, drama and performing. Music is a great way to express ourselves
while also developing different ways to move our bodies. We have been enjoying many different forms of music such
as rock, pop and children’s music. A disco has been planned for later in the month, which will be so much fun.
Puzzles have also been very big and the harder the puzzles the better, we have had to outsource resources from the
Temuka Toy Library to keep up with demand and skill level. Puzzles are great for fine motor skill development,
mathematical concepts and defining shape and colour. What a busy few weeks.

Important information on
the threat to infant formula
The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) is
responsible for all food safety in New
Zealand. Today, MPI advised the Ministry of
Education of a threat to contaminate infant formula
with 1080 poison.
Parents or caregivers may be concerned about this
threat. MPI has asked if you could please draw the
following to their attention:
EXCITING NEW VENUE

 MPI is confident that New Zealand infant
formula is as safe today as it was before
the threat.
 Parents and caregivers should use it as they
always have. No contamination has been
detected in the over 40,000 batches of
infant formula tested by MPI since the
threat was received in November 2014.
These tests will continue.
 Parents and caregivers should always check
all food packaging, including that for infant
formula, for signs of tampering. MPI has a
leaflet on how to check for this. It can be
found at: http://www.mpi.govt.nz or in your
local supermarket.
 Supermarkets have put in place additional
security measures around infant formula
following the threat.
 If parents or caregivers have any questions,
they can all Plunketline 0800 933922 or if
you are concerned about a baby's health,
call the Healthline 0800 611 116 or visit
the doctor.
 If parents or caregivers have any serious
concerns about a child's health, they
should call 111.

releases put out by New Zealand Police and MPIs
this afternoon.
