Melvin attended Northwest Rankin Elementary, Middle, and High Schools and most recently attended Brandon High School in Brandon, Mississippi where he was a Junior. Melvin was an outstanding football player at Northwest Rankin High School. He was a wonderful person, full of love, care and concern for his family and fellow man. His heart was pure gold and he was not afraid to express himself in any situation. Affectionately he was known as Lil’ Melvin, Muffin, Love, and as an infant because he was so chubby - Fat-Back. Everyone had a soft spot for “Love.” Melvin saw the good in everyone and never met a stranger. He loved in a way that was indescribable. He enjoyed seeing everyone happy. He was not a prideful person, instead he was meek and kind and never put himself first. Lil’ Melvin expressed a sincere desire to receive the salvation of Christ and happily accepted him into his life. Lil’ Melvin also had productive plans for his future. His desire was to earn a football scholarship to Mississippi State University where he wanted to follow in the steps of his father and major in Mechanical Engineering. Lil’ Melvin’s plans were interrupted early on Monday morning, when God called him to come and work on some “ heavenly” plans. And Lil’ Melvin simply replied, “Whatever you desire for me to do, Lord.” God said, “Come home! In addition to our celestial work, you can also be on my heavenly football team. I have a jersey ready for you that says #1.” God left behind to Melvin’s memories: His mother, Bobbie Nell Stamps, of Brandon, MS; siblings: Melinda J. Stamps Heath, Jackson, MS, Daphne R. Stamps Barney (Rev. Christopher) Madison, MS, Jewel Gray, Chicago, IL, Latoris Criss, D’Iberville, MS, Byron William Jefferson Stamps (Kim), Grenada, MS, Amber Lynette Stamps, Starkville, MS, Tammy Fay Stamps, Brandon, MS and Justin Marcell Stamps, Brandon, MS. He was also adored by his girlfriend, Rebecca Phillips. Melvin leaves to cherish his joyous spirit two nieces and two nephews: Leah Stamps, Christopher James Barney, II, Braxton Alexander Barney, and Genesis Gray; and his grandfather, James Earl Thurman, Canton, MS. Melvin also had numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly. His father, Melvin preceded him in death. His memories will be greatly cherished. My sweet gentle baby boy, with the heart of an angel. So sweet and loving. I will miss you always! Ma Lil Melvin, my name sake. You got all the best parts of me. You were the sweetest joy… “Help Lawd.” (what Daddy would say if he were here…what he is probably saying to you right now.) R.I.P. Melvin Jean Arthur Stamps Sr. & Jr. My muffin…my baby brother… one of my best friends! I had a soft spot in my heart for you from the moment Mama brought you home from the hospital! My heart is broken. I was in love with you…a piece of me left here with you! I will love you forever. Tammy Fay Melvin was not only a brother but my best friend. Melvin, I will always love you and cherish the memories that we shared. Even though our time was short I cherish every moment we spent. Justin Melvin was like an eagle with the heart of a lion and the spirit of a god. Lil Melvin is and was the epitome of unconditional love. We will carry the memory of you always. Your brother Jewell Jr., Shikira and Genesis Gray Little Melvin the gentle giant…one who stopped fights, who settled arguments, first to forgive so he may give to all. Uncle James Melvin is our sweetheart. The face that steals your heart, in an instant. We will miss your soft voice and kind spirit. The Armstrong Family Melvin I will always love and miss you. I will always remember your laugh and smile. You will always be in my heart. Rebecca Phillips Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. Melvin, we grew together like brothers…I love you and will always miss you. Josh Brumfield Melvin, I’m so shocked that you are no longer here with us. I already miss your affectionate ways; how you would call to simply say, “Hi.” I applaud how you wanted to keep daddy’s legacy alive by having all of us get together and fellowship. God took note of just how special you were and thus required your presence in heaven so you could spread your contagious “love” to everyone up there. You’re with daddy now and that gives me some peace as I know how much you adored him! Give him a big hug for me and you two continue sharing your caring, tender, and amorous spirits with those you come in contact. Melinda J. Stamps Heath My Nephew When God calls one of His angels home, it leaves those behind wondering why? However; those of us who understand that God does not make mistakes, must focus on the positive. We must give thanks for the time that we had with you and the blessing you brought by being a part of our lives. Though you were only here on earth a short time, the joy and happiness we experienced can never be expressed by words. So as you rest in your heavenly home, know that we love you and will never forget the joy you brought to our lives. We love you Melvin! Uncle Charles and Hilda Britton Acknowledgements The first shall be last and the last shall be first...
