Notes- Double Replacement Reactions
Double Replacement:
Name: ____________________________________
Date: ______________ Block: _________________
Metals are going to switch partners.
Example: BaCl2 + AgNO3 
Practice: Potassium hydroxide mixed with iron (III) nitrate.
Ionic Equations
Symbols for states:
Example: HCl mixed with NaOH.
Net Ionic Equations
Soluble Ions
Notable Exceptions (These are INSOLUBLE)
Ammonium (NH4+) salts
None
Group 1 (Li+, Na+, K+, etc.) salts
None
Nitrate (NO31-) salts
None
Acetate (CH2CO21-) salts
None
Chloride, Bromide, Iodide (Cl1-, Br1-, I1-) Salts
When combined with Ag+, Pb2+, Hg2+
Sulfate (SO42-) salts
When combined with Ba2+, Pb2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, Hg2+
Bisulfate (HSO41-) salts
None
Most sulfide, carbonate, phosphate, chromate and hydroxide salts are INSOLUBLE (or only slightly soluble). The
exceptions would be these ions combined with group 1 metal ions or ammonium ions. Also, Ca(OH)2, Sr(OH)2, and
Ba(OH)2 are marginally soluble.
Example: KI and Pb(NO3)2
