Andrew Boggs, who also had an account in the ledger, was a
resident of Moon Township. He was very concerned when he
learned that his neighbors thought he was going to be a revenue
man for Neville. Boggs was so concerned that he appealed to John
Neville to publish in the Pittsburgh Gazette the following that he.
“He, John Neville never thought of asking Andrew Boggs to fill
such an office”. Boggs plea and influence was such that John
Neville complied with his request and John Neville had Boggs’s
words published in the Pittsburgh Gazette.

Two days after the burning of John Neville’s plantation an advertisement
was placed in the Pittsburgh Gazette by Tom the Tinker warning John Reed, a
neighbor of John Neville. The last two paragraphs read:
“And Whereas, a certain John Reed, now resident in Washington, and
being at this place near Pittsburgh, called Reedburg, and having a set of stills
employed at said Reedsburg, entered on the excise docket, contrary to the said
law, by aiding and assisting in the late expedition, has by delinquency,
manifested his approbation to the execution of the aforesaid law, is hereby,
forthwith to cause the contents of this paper, with out adding and diminishing,
to be published in the Pittsburg Gazette the ensuing week, under no less
penalty than the consumption of his distillery.
Given under my hand this nineteenth day of July, one thousand seven
hundred and ninety-four. Tom the Tinker.

John McKee also a name in the ledger had the following printed in the August 12, 1794
issue of the Pittsburgh Gazette. “whereas some evil minded and ill disposed persons, with a
view, no doubt, to injure me, both in my character and property, have circulated two false
reports against me and my family. One is that when I was last in Philadelphia, I informed
upon the distillers on this side of the mountain, who had not entered their stills with the excise
man, and had received three hundred pounds for the same, and that I came with the Federal
Sheriff of Fayette County. The other is that Mrs. McKee should have said that, if Tom the
Tinker burn all we had, the State would make it good. Now I do hereby solemnly declare the
above reports to be false and groundless: that I do not know Clymer or Miller, the excise men,
or Lennox the Federal Sheriff, nor ever spoke a word to one of them in my life, and on this I
am ready to make oath, if called upon. And I do hereby call upon the malicious and
propagators to come forward and substantiate the charges, and do hereby put the world of
mankind to defiance to prove and support the same. Mouth of Yough., August 12, 1794 John
McKee”.
