He was very concerned when he learned that his neighbors thought he was going to be a revenue man for Neville. Boggs was so concerned that he appealed to John Neville to publish in the Pittsburgh Gazette the following that he. “He, John Neville never thought of asking Andrew Boggs to fill such an office”. Boggs plea and influence was such that John Neville complied with his request and John Neville had Boggs’s words published in the Pittsburgh Gazette. 16 of 42 Marshall David Lenox and General John Neville – July 15, 1794 17 of 42 Whiskey Boys go to Neville for Marshall Lenox – July 16, 1794 18 of 42 The burning of Neville’s Plantation – July 17, 1794 19 of 42 20 of 42 21 of 42 Two days after the burning of John Neville’s plantation an advertisement was placed in the Pittsburgh Gazette by Tom the Tinker warning John Reed, a neighbor of John Neville. The last two paragraphs read: “And Whereas, a certain John Reed, now resident in Washington, and being at this place near Pittsburgh, called Reedburg, and having a set of stills employed at said Reedsburg, entered on the excise docket, contrary to the said law, by aiding and assisting in the late expedition, has by delinquency, manifested his approbation to the execution of the aforesaid law, is hereby, forthwith to cause the contents of this paper, with out adding and diminishing, to be published in the Pittsburg Gazette the ensuing week, under no less penalty than the consumption of his distillery. Given under my hand this nineteenth day of July, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-four. Tom the Tinker. 22 of 42 John McKee also a name in the ledger had the following printed in the August 12, 1794 issue of the Pittsburgh Gazette. “whereas some evil minded and ill disposed persons, with a view, no doubt, to injure me, both in my character and property, have circulated two false reports against me and my family. One is that when I was last in Philadelphia, I informed upon the distillers on this side of the mountain, who had not entered their stills with the excise man, and had received three hundred pounds for the same, and that I came with the Federal Sheriff of Fayette County. The other is that Mrs. McKee should have said that, if Tom the Tinker burn all we had, the State would make it good. Now I do hereby solemnly declare the above reports to be false and groundless: that I do not know Clymer or Miller, the excise men, or Lennox the Federal Sheriff, nor ever spoke a word to one of them in my life, and on this I am ready to make oath, if called upon. And I do hereby call upon the malicious and propagators to come forward and substantiate the charges, and do hereby put the world of mankind to defiance to prove and support the same. Mouth of Yough., August 12, 1794 John McKee”. 23 of 42 David Bradford, Attorney from Washington County 24 of 42 July 26, 1794 25 of 42 STOLEN LETTERS From: Presley Neville To: General Daniel Morgan, United States Army From : James Brison To: Governor Mifflin, of Pennsylvania From: General John Gibson To: Governor Mifflin of Pennsylvania From: Edward Day To: Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of the Treasury From: Major Thomas Butler To: Henry Knox, Secretary of War 26 of 42 Black Horse Tavern On the Catfish Indian Trail 27 of 42 FORT FAYETTE 28 of 42 Braddock Field – August 1 to 5, 1794 29 of 42 BANNISHED FROM THE AERA 30 of 42 President Washington’s PEACE COMMISSION DEMAND A VOTE YEA OR NAY AND FARMERS TO SIGN OATH OF LOYALTY 31 of 42 Parkinson Ferry – Aug 14, 1794 32 of 42 Albert Gallatin 33 of 42 Secretary of War Henry Knox – Sept. 24. 1794 34 of 42 General Henry Lee 35 of 42 President George Washington review of the Army in Cumberland, Maryland – Oct. 16, 1794 36 of 42 General William Irvine, Nov. 9, 1794 37 of 42 11-12-1794 38 of 42 General Daniel Morgan 39 of 42 President Thomas Jefferson 40 of 42 The Old Stone Tavern would take part in another fight over spirits called “prohibition” but that is a story for another time.
