Spanish Upper Intermediate Framework
These are the grammar points we will be covering in the next three terms.
Depending on each class’ interests and needs, the tutor will adapt and vary the
topics. There might be some variations depending on the general level of the
class and on what the group can cope with topic-wise.
Term 1: Grammar to be introduced in sessions 1 – 10 (Sept – Dec)
 Revise: Qué, Cómo, Cuándo, Dónde, Porqué
 Revision of present and simple past
 Present perfect
 How to form participle tenses. (regular and irregular)
 Adverbs of frequency
 Superlative (El más, la más, lo más)
 Revise the contrast with SABER / PODER with present perfect
Term 2: Grammar to be introduced in sessions 11 – 20 (Jan – March)
 Revision of present, simple past and past perfect.
 Preterit imperfect
 SER / ESTAR contrast
 POR / PARA contrast
 Verbs of movement with prepositions (a, de & en)
 Estructure: volver + a + infinitive
 Time and speech markers
Term 3: Grammar to be introduced in sessions 21 – 30 (April –July)
 Adverbs and expressions of frequency
 Contrast with the three preterits
 The uses of: antes de, después de, hace & desde hace
 Verb durar / durante
 Estar (imperfect) + gerundio
 Future
The material will be provided by the tutor and will be taken from a variety of
sources: texts and exercise books, videos, audios, newspaper (adapted) articles,
etc. The course has a communicative approach, and speaking activities will help us
to incorporate the grammar introduced in each session. Each session lasts for 2
hours.
