INTRODUCING AGE UK KENSINGTON & CHELSEA TEAM Aga Kiona, Dementia Support Worker “I’m fascinated by and grateful for the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life who are kindly letting us into their lives. It is a touching and humane experience. When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with friends and family walking the dog, listening to music and cooking.” Darren Gormley, Dementia Support Worker “Although my professional and academic background is solely in dementia care, I originally entered the field primarily because of my passion for older people for which I owe a great deal to my grandparents Harry and Irene, who were proud residents of RBKC for over 30 years! My interests include exploring technology, connecting people through social media, portrait photography, documentary film and explorative journalism. These are interests I have had the privilege of sharing with many of the wonderful people I visit at home each week.” Kate Moffatt, My Memories Coordinator “My main interest is finding different ways to improve the lives of older people, especially those with dementia. So many of them provide good examples of how I want to lead my life when I am an older person myself. Something interesting that you might not know about me is that I was born in the same little village in the Forest of Dean as 1950/60s singer and radio presenter Sir Jimmy Young!” Muge Ahmet, Dementia Support Worker “I enjoy being a support worker because our work allows us to be person-centred and it is very flexible and we do get to know the clients better than other professionals. We are also able to pick up on things which are going wrong.” Kathe Jacob, Health & Wellbeing Manager “I started working with older people in Bristol as a community worker, and afterwards setting up and running activity projects with older people, including people living in sheltered accommodation and care homes. I love working with older people because they have character, wisdom, humour, and patience. We can all learn something from them, and need to offer respect and listen whenever we can. My own interests include sewing (beginner), reading, watching movies, gardening and exploring new places.” Anna Sadler, Memory Advisor “Hello, I’m Anna the Memory Advisor in Kensington and Chelsea – I work closely with the Memory Service and Age UK to support people with a diagnosis of dementia. My favourite part of this job is getting to meet so many different people and find out about their interesting and varied lives! Give me a wave if you see me whizzing around the borough on my bike.” Ashika Patel, Dementia Support Worker “I value being involved in daily community life and welcome the opportunity to support individuals to maintain connections and activities that are important to them. For some people I visit this can be as simple as a walk in the local area or sharing memories and music.I enjoy many types of arts and crafts from drawing to photography and I like to share these interests with others.” Damian Green “I first started to work supporting older people as a volunteer. Over the years, I have worked across the various sectors within social care . I’ve always had a passion for supporting and standing up for the rights of older people. We can learn so much from the experiences and history of peoples’ lives and it is a joy to work with older people. In my spare time I enjoy current affairs and have a keen interest in politics and history, as well as spending time with my cats at home!” Deirdre McCarthy – Food & Friends Coordinator “I am originally from a rural part of the South West of Ireland. I first came to London almost four years ago to further my education and study for a Masters Degree in Clinical and Public Health Nutrition. Growing up on my family’s farm, my passion for food and curiosity about nutrition began at a very early age. My interest in healthy ageing comes from my dear Grandmother who lived with us and who throughout my life was a wonderful role model of human kindness and wisdom. When not working I spend a lot of my time cooking, running/going for walks, catching up with friends and shoe shopping!” Saba Vigneri – Health Development worker “I am member of the Health Wise Team based at the Acklam Road office. I organise health talks and seminars, coordinate our exercise at home project and our walking support project. I’ve been in Age UK K & C for 5 years I used to work in the intergen projects, shopping trips, volunteer recruiting, de-cluttering service”.
