This works well as pre-exam revision to revise plot and character. There could be more
than one right answer; the answer sheet is only a guide
The activity can be done individually, or in groups. The aim is to get students thinking
and discussing, so the activity works best in groups (of three or four).
Ways of using the quiz:
Groups complete the sheet and then swap and mark; teacher adjudicates acceptable
answers.
Introduce competition – various systems of awarding points, e.g.
•
one point for each plausible answer
•
points could be won by the group to successfully challenge another group (in this
case, don’t swap sheets)
•
teacher classifies the question into easy or hard and (without handing out the
full sheet) lets groups choose their own category, with more points for answering
a hard question.
Less able groups could be given the odd one out and asked for the reason.
Reveal questions one at a time (oral/OHT/PowerPoint/IWB). Allow one minute per
answer, with groups holding up answers (names) on mini whiteboard first, then ask for
reasons orally. This may elicit a wider variety of possible ‘correct’ answers.
Ask more able groups to challenge each other to find more than one ‘right’ answer.
Give class five from the sheet then in groups ask them to make up five more to test the
other groups.
