2009 BURGUNDY OFFER
Foreword
The preparation for this 2009 Red Burgundy catalogue has been fraught with difficulties owing to the
changeable weather conditions on the Cote d’Or. When I was visiting in April the temperature, each
day was consistently 28oC- 32oC; in the shade. Consequently the proposed start of the vintage was
estimated to be mid August; early by any measure. Since that time the cool to cold weather arrived
to push the start date back to late August. However, this has now changed to be between the 3rd to
the 10th September. These changes have affected the final preparation of our shipment hence the
delay in releasing our catalogue. My apologies!
This is a much sought after vintage as we have had continual telephone calls enquiring as to when
our offer would be released. We have even received ‘request orders’ from many customers to boot!
We therefore URGE you all to get your orders in REAL EARLY to make sure you receive what you
wish. This assists us greatly as we can allocate those wines that are very short in supply. It enables us
to spread the wines to the widest audience without disappointment.
I am delighted with the overall range we are presenting to you and particularly the quality of the
wines. In terms of importance all of our growers chose to pick early to retain sufficient acidity to add
structure and balance. Those growers that picked later had reduced acidity and fatter styles of red
Burgundy. This was a vital factor in qualitative terms so the 2009 vintage cannot AND SHOULD
NOT be averaged.
Following this catalogue Vic will be returning from vintage work in Champagne and Burgundy. He
will be putting the finishing touches to our final Champagne offer and what a marvellous range of
wines we will be offering. Stunning in fact!!!
The exchange rate has dropped off a little but still offers advantages for us here in Australia and we
have, as usual, passed this on.
I think we have prepared an excellent selection for you to select from and if you need any assistance
just give us a call.
STOP PRESS!!! – Late advice from Domaine Bachelet confirms that we will now be shipping both
white and red Burgundies with this shipment. Yippee!!
Cheers,
Ross, Bev, Eve and Vic

THE WEATHER:
In 2009 the vines enjoyed ideal conditions during the entire vegetative cycle and, most
importantly during the important ripening phase. Where they basked in sunshine. Sunlight
and heat were in abundance throughout August and September, resulting in grapes of
extraordinary quality, which was revealed throughout vinification. After this process, the
authentic character of the vintage was revealed.
At the beginning of September, the vines held grapes of perfect maturity with an ideal
balance of sugar/acidity/aroma. Right up until the harvest, the summer weather ensured
excellent health throughout the vineyards.
Vigilance remained high, to monitor the rapid development of the grapes. It was essential to
carry out regular maturity checks. Nevertheless, the wine-growers were able to calmly
choose a date for their harvest, depending on the type of wine they wished to create. In this
way, each vine could be harvested at the most optimum time.
THE MARKET:
The market remains dedicated and growing for the domaines of Burgundy from north to south and
many growers have arrived at the point that they cannot receive any new clients.
THE WINES:
The white wines were very impressive and displayed a very attractive aromatic profile. They are
round with depth of fruit and excellent acidity to balance the palate and promise great potential for
ageing. Above all they display precise ‘terroir’ authenticity.
PRICES:
This is a mixed bag as quite a few domaine’s have increased their prices considerably. In our case that
is limited and not an enormous increase. This has been buffered by the excellent exchange rate, which
we always pass on. So the overall situation is very close to our 2008 offer.
MY SELECTIONS:
I think we have a lovely selection of wines from all parts of Burgundy. We have a broad spread of
appellations and Crus plus a spread of prices as well! The range is as follows:
BOURGOGNE - 5 wines
ROSE - 1
VILLAGE - 24 wines
PREMIERS CRU - 32 wines
GRANDS CRU - 15 wines
CONCLUSION:
The most important aspect of the 2009 vintage was the actual picking time of the harvest. For those
that picked early the balance of the fruit was better with sufficient acidity and high fruit quality. For
those that waited and picked later the heat diminished the acid level and raised both the alcohol level
and the richness of fruit. This caused a great loss of ‘terroir’ identification and style. I am happy to
report that all of our growers picked early and therefore recommend them to you without hesitation.

ALLOCATIONS & ORDERS:
All wines in this offer are limited in availability. There are always those wines that we cannot stretch
to demand but, as always, we try to be fair and equitable to you all. In this vintage we will also give
preference to those clients that purchased both 2007 and 2008 vintages.
AS ALWAYS WE URGE EARLY ORDERING TO AVOID
DISAPPOINTMENT AND THIS ASSISTS US IN ALLOCATING FAIRLY.
ORDERS:
The minimum order is one case ( carton) – 12 x 750 ml bottles
AND
THE MINIMUM ORDER OF ANY ONE WINE IS 3 X 750 ML (unless allocated lower by us)
SUBSEQUENT ORDERS TO BE ROUNDED OUT TO FULL ( 12 X 750 ML CASES) OR HALF
CASE LOTS OF 6 X 750 ML BOTTLES.
DELIVERIES:
We require all clients to provide us with a delivery address that is attended during normal business
hours – 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. unfortunately, we cannot stipulate a particular day nor an exact time as
this is out of our control.
Our warehouse facilities have changed so we can no longer allow clients to collect their orders.

CLOS SALOMON, GIVRY
The Clos Salomon is very rich in history and takes its name from the Salomon family which held land
in Givry in the 13th century. It is recorded that in 1375 Huges Salomon sold his wine to the Pope in
Avignon. For three centuries it has been in the hands of the Gardin family for three centuries. The
present winemaker is Ludovic du Gardin who guards their 7 hectare estate with a vice-like grip.
The growers of Givry would have it that in the middle ages their wines were on an equal footing
with those of Beaune. Certainly they paid the same taxes.
Like the other villages of this region, Givry has seen replanting in recent years. The production is
now 2,500 hectares (25,000 dozen bottles) of red wine, 800 hectares (8,800 dozen bottles) of white.
Quite serious eh?
This is an excellent producer of fine quality Burgundy that demands attention particularly when the
experiment is of such value??? The 2009 vintage was exceptional in Givry as this marvellous Pinot
Noir will illustrate
CLOS SALOMON 2009 GIVRY 1er CRU ROUGE
‘Exceedingly deep, dark red colour; then comes the cherry’/strawberry waft. The palate floods onto
the tongue with such soft and succulent red berry fruits. Just enough acid to balance the finish and
licking tannin to end the experience. Now this is a cracker and ridiculous in price given the quality
from start to finish. O.K I have been rambling on for years about the hidden value of the Cotes
Chalonnaise so I challenge you with this stunning red wine!!!

DOMAINE JEAN CLAUDE BACHELET, SAINT AUBIN
W.O.W – WHAT A TASTING!!!!!
So many things are happening at this ever rising domaine as the boys, Benoit and Jean-Bapiste
,continue to overhaul the entire vinification techniques and handling of their precious fruit to ensure
there is no risk of infection or contamination in the handling or physical movement of the juice or the
finished wine. Furthermore, all movement of the barrels, temperature control and transfers from tank
to barrel has been eliminated. How did they tackle this project? Why build a new cuverie of course!
And build they did, and what an impressive cellar it is. Benoit and Jean-Baptiste have moved all the
oak casks and useable tanks from the various cellars they had dotted around their hamlet – Gamay
and bought additional equipment and temperature control devices to erect a state of the art building.
This has assisted the 2009 wines immeasurably. So watch out for the future as these boys are well on
track to excite the world with exciting white and red burgundy of the highest order. W.O.W. SO
LET’S GO?
BLANCS
BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY 2009
‘ Shimmering green/gold colour , which always is a strong indication of the acid level of a white
AND it never fails! This wine is lively and feisty with a minerality that is positive with grapefruit,
lime and lemon fruit quality. Not real bad for a humble and value-packed Bourgogne Blanc.’
(Code: 2284) $24.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
SAINT AUBIN 2009 ‘LES CHAMPLOTS’ 1er CRU
‘Again lovely intense colour and a flowery nose with a touch of cinnamon. Now this white is packed
full of flavour with minerals galore and such sublime balance. An outstanding white burgundy
indeed.’
(Code: 2285) $ 42.20/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
5
Jean-Bapiste & Benoit Bachelet
SAINT AUBIN 2009 ‘ LES CHARMOIS’ 1er CRU
‘There is that green/gold again – lovely. Quite an aromatic nose. The palate is richer, riper and fatter
but the minerals are there and the balance is spot one, as usual. Impressive!’
(Code: 2286) $42.20 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
SAINT AUBIN 2009 ‘LES MURGERS DES DENTS DE CHIEN’ 1er CRU
‘A bit closed for now but the great structure indicates a blockbuster is imminent. My opinion of this
fantastic Premier Cru will result in a glorious Chardonnay of great proportions. A marvellous
vineyard by any standard!’
(Code: 2287) $51.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2009 ‘LES ENSEIGNERES’ 1er CRU
‘ A more typical Chassagne with milder acid, broader fruit flavour but good length and long aftertaste. More fruit driven without the mineral background which is what Chassagne produces.’
(Code: 2288) $56.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2009 ‘LES MACHERELLES’ 1er CRU
‘Goodness, that green/gold hue again? Now this breaks out of the blocks real quick. Flowery nose,
crisp acidity which employs spice (cinnamon) with great liveliness AND supremely balanced. Highly
attractive wine that will build and build in the bottle.
(Code: 2289) $65.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2009 ‘LA BOUDRIOTTE’ 1er CRU
‘Now this is what most Chassagne-Montrachet whites should taste like. Great concentration of
pear/lemon/grapefruit palate with excellent acid background and highly concentrated right to the
finish. Superb Chassagne!’
(Code: 2290) $71.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 2009 VILLAGE
‘Way above average ‘village’ quality. Simply a beauty and so, so typical of the Puligny style we all
love. Hard to beat the quality and value of this white Burgundy?’
(Code: 2291) $ 58.00/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
6
PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 2009 ‘SOUS LE PUITS’ 1er CRU
‘What an explosive Puligny. Such quality of fruit with lime/lemon and as long as a politicians
speech? This is Grand Cru in a Premier Cru label. For goodness sake be quick on this one.’ LIMITED
(Code: 2292) $77.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2009 ‘BLANCHOT DESSUS’ 1er CRU
‘A bit closed at present but the spice and after-taste IS enormous. Tuck her away in the cellar and
hold onto your hat in 10 years plus to be electrified. A rare vineyard as well.’
LIMIT 1 BOTTLE PER ORDER
(Code: 2293) $103.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
BIENVENUE-BATARD-MONTRACHET 2009 GRAND CRU’
‘Now this is a fruit bomb. Again, down to the bottom of the cellar for at least 10 years then watch it
explode.’
LIMIT 1 BOTTLE PER ORDER
(Code: 2294) $205.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

DOMAINE BACHELET 2009 RED BURGUNDIES
BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2009
‘ Deep ruby colour Lots of cassis/cherry fruits with no hard edges or dry tannins. Super quality for
such a humble appellation. Great value Pinot Noir of style and class. Hard to avoid.’
(Code: 2211) $22.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
SAINT AUBIN 2009 DERRIERE LA TOUR 1er CRU
‘ This is a great favourite of mine and just so under-rated. The vineyard lies behind the church in the
village of Saint Aubin and the Bachelet’s have a virtual monopoly as the only other grower in this
vignoble makes white wine. Unfortunately it is a bit closed now but my tasting notes of last year left
me in no doubt it will be a wonderful wine given it’s previous past - which this wine has. Don’t miss
this opportunity.’
(Code: 2212) $32.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
The New Cuverie
Jean-Baptiste & his sparkling new tanks!
CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2009 ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’
‘Here we have 35- 40 year old vines which make so much difference with Pinot Noir above all other
red grape varieties. Consequently the deep root structure results in fruit quality that is more
penetrating and silky smooth. One of the great value wines of the vintage!!!’
(Code: 2213) $ 36.00/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2009 ‘LA BOUDRIOTTE’ 1er CRU
‘Sensational, from start to finish. We have 31 year old vines to boot. Oh so soft, velvety, silky with
enormous length. Perhaps Chassagne should make more red wine than white as its past history
shows. Some 15 years ago red wine production in Chassagne outscored Chardonnay with 60% of
plantings to Pinot Noir? This stunner is an excellent reason why??
(Code: 2214) $54.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

DOMAINE MARQUIS D’ANGERVILLE, VOLNAY
This most famous domaine continues to fine tune their superb range of Pinot Noirs. Both Guillaume
D’Angerville and Francois Duvier work tirelessly in the vineyard and winery to craft majestic wines.
They are now 100% bio-dynamic and are prepared to do the many additional manual interventions
to ensure a more natural outcome is achieved with their wines. I thought that perhaps the Cote de
Beaune, being further south, may lack sufficient acidity to those of their northern cousins on the Cote
de Nuits in 2009! Not so and the balance is excellent and will enable successful bottle maturation as a
result. The wines here are just outstanding, by any standard, which I could not recommend more!
BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2009
‘Dense garnet red colour with a flowery nose. Such depth for a humble Bourgogne Rouge so well
above the appellation. Excellent depth of fruit and in perfect balance.’
(Code: 2228) $35.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
VOLNAY 2009 ‘FREMIETS’ 1er CRU
‘Intense ruby red colour and highly aromatic. The fruit flavour is very much in the cherry category
with mild tannin and soft acidity. Finely balanced with great length. Francois continues to fine tune
this Premier Cru to match his other cousins!’
(Code: 2229) $85.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
VOLNAY 2009 ‘LES CAILLERETS’ 1 er CRU
‘Similar depth of colour to the Fremiets’. This Premier Cru is even richer, riper and rounder again!
This is so approachable right now and will continue to fill out in bottle. A nice touch of spice adds
more complexity but the roundness is the ‘stamp’ with this wine.’
(Code: 2230) $98.50 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
9
VOLNAY 2009 ‘CLOS de ANGLES 1er CRU
‘This is the first vintage of this new Premier Cru despite the vines being 50 years of age! The vineyard
lies beneath ‘Fremiets’ lower down the hill leading from the village of Volnay. A nice open aspect
with thicker soil and less rock than those above. This is a very elegant wine rich in red berry fruits
with soft tannins and mild acidity. Lots of finesse and extremely easy to enjoy right now. However, I
would keep this for around 5 more years just to let it fill out some more.’
(Code: 2231 ) $85.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
VOLNAY 2009 ‘TAILLEPIEDS’ 1er CRU
‘Very deep ruby colour here! A spicy/flowery aroma that leads on to a powerfully ripe and juicy
palate. A nice bite of tannin and sufficient acid combines to make a wonderful concentrated Volnay.
Just impeccable!’
(Code: 2232) $98.50 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
VOLNAY 2009 ‘CHAMPANS’ 1er CRU
‘Another deep colour with even more spice and aromatics. The palate shows enormous depth of fruit
with such velvety texture. The fruit is infused with strawberry/cherry fruit which just lingers on and
on. Such length and class – classic Volnay!’
(Code: 2233) $98.50 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
VOLNAY 2009 ‘CLOS DES DUCS’ 1er CRU
‘This wine was not bottled as yet. The tank sample produced a solid style of Burgundy that will be
destined to long bottle ageing up to 10-15 years. A forceful style with great depth and firmer tannin
finish. A masculine style but very classy. But you must wait and be patient.’
(Code: 2234) $ 128.00/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

DOMAINE DU PRIEURE, SAVIGNY-LES-BEAUNE
In the heart of Savigny les Beaune, Yvonne, Jean Michel and son Stephen open the doors of their
ancient Prieuré (Religious house). This unique place was built by the Cistercian monks in 1771. The
house is of immense character being entirely renovated and situated in the centre of the village sitting
opposite the main square. Nowadays it is used as guest accommodation and for tasting events. Their
Cuverie is located at the entrance to the village next to the welcoming sign-post. The wines at
Domaine du Prieuré are very traditional wines exuding the delightful fruitiness that Savigny
Burgundy’s are noted for. Little or no new oak is used, just high quality, pure fruit reflecting the long
hours the family spend looking after their vineyards. These are such useful wines in any cellar as
they can be trusted to deliver fresh and vibrant Pinot Noir red berry fruits encased in a soft and
velvety framework.
SAVIGNY-LES BEAUNE 2009 ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’
‘Now this is the epitome of the authentic Savigny style of Pinot Noir – fresh, flowery fruity and soft
and lingering on the palate. No hard edges or dry, tough tannins, just lovely pure cherry, red berry
fruits but velvety and smooth and lingering.
(Code: 2215) $27.00/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
SAVIGNY-LES-BEAUNE 2009 ‘MOUTIER AMET’
‘ Vibrant deep purple red hue. Very fruity with a touch of liquorice on the finish. Authentic Savigny
with softer tones and great length BUT has its own character which is ever so engaging.’
(Code: 2216) $30.50 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
SAVIGNY-LES-BEAUNE 2009 ‘LES GRANDS PICOTANS’
‘’ Deep ruby colour and excellent clarity. Flowery and bright nose. More tannin on the finish and
subsequent structure. Lots of red berry fruits with tight balance and needing around 5-6 years in the
cellar to round the tannin out and meld the acidity into a final taste. Excellent and such an all round
wine for all palates.’
(Code: 2217) $30.50 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

DOMAINE RAPET PERE ET FILS, PERNAND-VERGELESSES
The 18 hectare vineyards of Domaine Roland Rapet date back to 1765. They are fortunate to own 2
hectares of the prized Corton-Charlemage as well as Corton Grands Cru, Premiers Cru, Village wines
not only in Pernard-Vergelesses (in the Celtic language ‘Pernand’ means < the lost source> ) but
Aloxe-Corton and Beaune appellations. Vincent Rapet is safely at the helm and is a well qualified
winemaker of the first order. I have witnessed a slight change in style under Vincent’s governance
with the wines more elegant and fine but sharply balanced and oozing ‘terroir’ faithfully. His 2009
wines are superb top class Burgundy’s that will age beautifully over the next 15 + years. The family
cellar will testify to this prediction as I regularly taste quite old vintages at the completion of my
annual tasting. Such is the tradition in Burgundy of this old and generous custom.
PERNAND-VERGELESSES 2009 ‘LES BELLE FILLES’ ROUGE
‘Attractive wine from the very start. Inviting plum flavoured fruit that is soft and sound. Just so juicy
and soft velvety tannin.’
(Code: 2235) $42.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
PERNAND-VERGELESSES 2009 ‘ILE DES VERGELESSES’ 1r CRU
‘ One of my favourite wines and whilst a bit closed for now the balance and texture is all there. Just
needs to settle over the next 2-5 years. A fabulous vineyard that imparts all the classical qualities of
Great Burgundy.’
(Code: 2236) $ 73.60/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

BEAUNE 2009 ‘CLOS DU ROI’ 1er CRU
‘ Medium ruby red colour with an earthy nose. This is ripe and rich with red berry fruits. Round, soft
tannin and just so expressive! Top quality Beaune premier Cru.’
(Code: 2237) $63.50 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CORTON 2009 GRAND CRU
‘ Closed but fine balance and firm structure. Needs time and a cool cellar for maximum rewards.’
(Code: 2238) $107.80 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CORTON 2009 ‘POUGETS’ GRAND CRU
‘ Showing more fruit than the Grand Cru. Fine style with good firm tannin. Normally firmer tannin
structure than the Grand Cru but on this occasion riper and rounder with great potential. ‘

DOMAINE LIGER-BELAIR, NUITS ST GEORGES
Another exciting tasting with Thibault!! He never stops trying to elevate his wines year after year. On
this occasion it was less stirring to aerate his wines before bottling?? Furthermore he is still shipping
cork from Sardinia to gain the advantages of over 200 year old cork and oak trees. If there is one little
angle he can introduce to increase the quality outcome of his wines he will search it out and employ
it!!
On this occasion we tasted several wines pre-bottling out of tank whilst others we tasted in another
cellar from cask. AND what a tasting it was!!! Simply outstanding!
BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2009 ‘LES GRANDS CHAILLOTS’
‘ Black/red and so vibrant. Very ripe and luscious and what enormous length. Stunning Bourgogne
rouge by any standard.’
(Code: 2240) $33.50 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
NUITS-ST-GEORGES’ 2009 ‘LA CHARMOTTE’

VOSNE-ROMANEE 2009 ‘AUX REAS’

elegant Vosne wine than Gevrey-chambertin. Glorious character and finesse!’
(Code: 2243) $71.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
NUITS-ST-GEORGES 2009 ‘LES SAINT GEORGES’ 1er CRU

CORTON 2009 ‘LES RENARDES’ GRAND CRU

best of the Grands Cru of Aloxe-Corton. Perfectly balanced with enormous finesse.’
(Code: 2247) $126.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CHARMES-CHAMBERTIN 2009 GRAND CRU
‘ Vines dating back to 1954 and only one half hectare. This has an engaging strawberry fruit flavour
with some pepper/liquorice and cinnamon imparted by 50% new oak. Glorious Grand cru. There are
many Charmes-Chambertin that do not rise to Grand Cru status in my opinion, this has all the
attributes.’

RICHEBOURG 2009 GRAND CRU
‘ What can I say – a tour de force. So powerful and never ending palate.’

DOMAINE DESAUNAY—BISSEY, FLAGEY-ECHEZEAUX
ONE OF MY BEST TASTINGS EVER WITH BRUNO!!!
Bruno Desaunay has excelled himself with a sparkling range of top quality Burgundy. This was the
most complete tasting I have had at the domaine going back 25 years! Vic and our old mate Rod
Hurley had tasted ahead of me and when I caught up with them they too were extolling the tasting of
Bruno’s 2009 beauties. It is over to you AND be quick!!!
BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2009
‘Deep ruby colour. The palate is very long and lush but with more structure than usual so I would
keep this one in the cellar for at least 5 years to allow it to fill out.’
(Code: 2219) $24.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2009
‘Black/red in colour and very dense. This is a blockbuster and will last a very long time in the cellar –
at least 20 years! The balance is spot on but the concentration of fruit, tannins and acidity combine
beautifully. Vines date back to 1985.’
(Code: 2220) $49.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
NUITS ST GEORGES 2009 ‘LE BELLE CROIX’
‘A bit tight and closed but the balance, texture and weight of fruit are all in check.’
(Code: 2221) $49.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2009 ‘COMBE D’ORVEAUX’
‘Flowery/aromatic nose that is most inviting. The immediate impact of strawberry/cherry fruit is so
typical of the fine, elegant Burgundy we come to expect of Chambolle. This is a great example.’
(Code: 2222) $51.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
17
VOSNE-ROMANEE 2009 ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’
‘The vines date back to 1966 with younger plantings in 1982-86. Vibrant, deep ruby colour sets the
scene. The flavour is lush, opulent and very velvety with cherry fruit abounding. Glorious balance –
glorious wine!’
(Code: 2223) $51.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
VOSNE ROMANEE 2009 ‘LES ROUGES’ 1er CRU
‘Another wine that has closed up for the moment but it displays and elegant palate that is fine and
lingering. The colour is lightened by recent addition of sulphites but that will return.’
(Code: 2224) $67.50 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
VOSNE-ROMANEE 2009 ‘LES BEAUX MONTS’ 1er CRU
‘Glittering deep scarlet colour and just a fabulous, highly concentrated palate. All the red berry fruits
chime in with perhaps Strawberry dominating. Silky texture and long finish. Outstanding Pinot!’
(Code: 2225) $74.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
ECHEZEAUX 2009 GRAND CRU
‘Explosive!! The ‘attack’ of this wine is immediate. The Grand Cru status is obvious and this has such
power and length wrapped up in a silk glove. Great wine by any standard.’
(Code: 2226) $111.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
GRANDS ECHEZEAUX 2009 GRAND CRU
‘Same depth of colour and structure as the Echezeaux. Delicious pure fruit that never goes away.
Bruno has two majestical wines here! Bravo! Following some discussion we compared both of these
Grands Cru to the great 1990 vintage.’
(Code: 2227) $145.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

DOMAINE JEAN TARDY, VOSNE-ROMANEE
Jean & Guillaume Tardy
Guillaume has settled down from his enormous scare with nearly losing his wife last year. He was in
perky form as opposed to his ghost like look last year when we tasted together. There have been a
few changes with some leases expiring thus reducing the range. However, this was matched by
additions like ‘Cuvee Mailly’ and Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Champerrier’. Sadly Vosne-Romanee ‘Les
Chaumes’ and Clos Vougeot have departed.
The more I taste with Guillaume the more I am impressed and thankfully Jean, his father, is now
equally proud that his son has put his stamp on the domaine and receiving and earning new markets
in many parts of the world. I feel that the wines are more redolent of Vosne-Romanee as a
consequence. Jean Tardy made marvellous wines but they were more tannic and harder thus
requiring longer time in bottle. So well done Guillaume!!
HAUT COTES DE NUITS 2009 ‘Cuvee Maelie’
‘ This Cuvee is named after Guillaume’s baby daughter ‘Maelie’. What a lovely little Pinot it is with
abundant Raspberry/rhubarb fruit and quite ripe and soft to the finish. Very, very long palate.’
(Code: 2250) $32.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
FIXIN 2009 ‘LA PLACE’
‘Delightfully pure with sweeter fruit and lovely silky texture. Excellent and so under-rated.’
(Code: 2251) $49.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
VOSNE-ROMANEE 2009 ‘VIGNEUX’
‘ Made from 25 year old vines. An elegant red burgundy and so typical of that ultra feminine VosneRomanee style.’
(Code: 2252) $75.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
19
NUITS ST GEORGES 2009 ‘AUX BAS DE COMBE’
‘ Very fine style as well with strong raspberry/strawberry fruit and no trace of that typical
‘earthiness’ of Nuits red Burgundy. This is quite pure and fine.’
(Code: 2253) $68.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
ECHEZEAUX 2009 GRAND CRU
‘Very old vines here and I know because I helped Guillaume to replace some of the old boys that
were paste it! Great depth of Pinot fruit with layers of velvet. Outstanding length of ripe fruit BUT a
feminine type right throughout. Stunning proportions!’
(Code: 2255) $188.00/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
Here is a news flash. Milk bottles were thrown at a meeting of the Milk Marketing Board
this afternoon and a meeting of the Egg Marketing Board was also broken up when eggs
were thrown. A mass meeting of the Manure Board has been cancelled!!

CLOS DES LAMBRAYS, MOREY ST DENIS
The ‘Gang’ at Clos des Lambrays
A very warm reception as usual BUT this was more so? The temperature was 32oC in the shade.
Thierry was dressed for the occasion with short sleeved shirt and shorts!! Sacre-Bleu! Monsieur
Brouin was so excited with what was happening in the vineyards that he quickly raced me through
the domaine’s garden to show me several vines that he trained in front of a brick wall that had
commenced flowering?? Naturally the reflected heat from the wall had something to do with this, but
at the end of April?? Such is the unusual weather pattern of 2011. Following this we descended into
the cellar to begin the REAL work!! Someone has to do it? We commenced with a ‘sneak’ preview of
the 2010 wines which were very attractive then onto the 2009 then the 2008, 2007 and finally the 2006
vintage. At this point Thierry then presented me with a letter from Robert Parker to a friend of his in
America dated 2003. His friend had written a nasty critique of Clos des Lambrays 1998 Grand Cru
which was less than complimentary. Parker agreed with his mate’s findings and that back in 2003 he
gave Lambrays 1998, 78 points out of 100 which would put it into the almost ‘undrinkable’ league.
Therefore, Thierry presented me with a bottle for us to taste. Guess what? It was sensational! Need I
say any more for the American palate and the erstwhile Parker when it comes to Burgundy? Thierry
was so chuffed that we had a quick look at the 1995 model which was delicious as well. Work! Work!
Work!
MOREY ST DENIS 2009 VILLAGE
‘This wine was completely ‘de-stemmed’ before fermentation to ensure only high toned ‘pure’ fruit
resulted and what a success it was. Deep ruby colour with more structure and firmer tannin than
usual. Fabulous quality from a vineyard that sits among Grand Cru vineyard up the hill behind the
village. How this occurred is a mystery?’

Most birds of the air could repose;
But they all flew away
At the closing of day,
Which relieved that old man and his nose.

CLOS DES LAMBRAYS 2009 GRAND CRU
‘ Vibrant and glowing ruby red colour leads to a wine of classic style and class. Such elegance and
pure, juicy red berry fruit more of an amalgam of cherries and strawberries picked at maximum
ripeness. This is Grand Cru for you? A selection of sizes as well.’
(Code: 2257) $186.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
(Code: 2258) $96.00 / HALF BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

DOMAINE PIERRE AMIOT, MOREY ST DENIS
The wines from this highly impressive domaine just keep getting better and better each time I visit.
The level of finesse and such pure expression of Pinot Noir and ‘terroir’ from each of his various Crus
are just so impressive. I now visit Jean-Louis at the end of the day to savour his wonderful talent and
just linger in the cellar assessing his marvellous range of superlative Burgundies.
JEAN-LOUIS BOTTLED ALL OF HIS 2009 WINES AT THE END OF NOVEMBER AND THE START
OF DECEMBER 2010.
MOREY ST DENIS 2009
‘ Deep ruby red colour. The palate is lush and ripe with mild tannin and ripe and round finish. Such
a high quality village wine?’
(Code: 2204) $45.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
MOREY ST DENIS 2009 ‘AUX CHARMES’ 1er CRU
‘’Very deep ruby colour. This is a bit closed as of now but there lurks a powerful framework with
30% new oak used adding some more complexity. A more than substantial Pinot!
(Code: 2205) $68.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
MOREY ST DENIS 2009 ‘LES RUCHOTS’ 1er CRU
‘Similar depth of colour to the ‘Aux Charmes’ A highly concentrated wine with firmer tannin and
great length. The overall balance is stunning with super balance to cap it off. Great wine in the
making!’
(Code: 2206) $72.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
MOREY ST DENIS 2009 ‘LES MILLANDES’ 1er CRU
‘Deep ruby colour that leads to a lush palate full of strawberry and raspberry fruit flavours. Ripe and
minerally and fine balance.’
(Code: 2207) $68.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
23
GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2009 ‘LES COMBOTTES’ 1er CRU
‘An explosion of ripe, velvety fruit that is rich, complex and long on the palate. Just a lovely wine of
great quality. Surrounded by Grands Crus Clos de la Roche, Latricieres-Chambertin and MazyChambertin but only Premier Cru??? I think it is Grand Cru quality!!’
(Code: 2208) $84.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CLOS ST DENIS 2009 GRAND CRU
‘Softer ruby red colour. Powerful beginning with immediate fruit full of cherries but very fine
balance. A wonderful wine from start to finish and surprisingly open and easy to taste right
now!’(900 BOTTLES PRODUCED) Fantastic wine in ever aspect.’
(Code: 2209) $114.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CLOS DE LA ROCHE 2009 GRAND CRU
‘Deep garnet red colour. Enticing amalgam of cherry and strawberry on nose and palate. Mild attack
but fills out beautifully into a beautifully balance Burgundy. The best Clos de la Roche I have tasted.
A keeper.’
(Code: 2210) $114.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

DOMAINE FOURRIER, GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN
I always look forward to tasting Jean-Maries exquisite Burgundies as they are the epitome of ‘terroir’
that we expect from the very best of the region. Each and every wine has its own character and style
and expressive of location and site. Jean-Marie is passionate about this aspect as he firmly believes
that is why the area cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. My thinks we all agree? This
was a ‘special’ tasting and at it’s conclusion it was ‘spooky’ to say to you that Jean-Marie and I agreed
that it reminded us both of 1999. I cannot recommend these wines more highly.’
CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2009 VILLAGE
‘ Jean-Maries Chambolle-Musigny wines – village and Les Gruenchers have made another jump in
quality over the last three years as he has been fine tuning their style to an even higher level of
elegance. The 2009 is just so sublime and so poised to typify the elegance and finesse of this special
village. A stunner for a village appellation.’
(Code: 2275) $65.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2009 ‘LES GRUENCHERS’ 1er CRU
‘Muted nose for now but my 2010 notes showed up more fruit and spice. Excellent depth of rich, ripe
red berry fruits although cherry and strawberry dominate. Extremely long and lush palate that does
not show any hard edges or extraction. A beauty of the vintage!’
(Code: 2276) $ 102.00/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
PETITS VOUGEOT 2009 1er CRU
‘Normally lighter in colour and more elegant in taste. The 2009 has enormous power and intensity
BUT finely balanced. Soft notes on the finish and great length and depth of character.’
(Code: 2277) $ 96.00/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2009 ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’
‘The vines here are in access of 70 years of age so the texture is weighted with silk and velvet and
enormous length. This wine has received rave reviews from respected wine writers around the globe.
And rightly so. Just a complete cracker!’
(Code: 2278) $65.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2009 ‘LES CHAMPEAUX’ 1er CRU
‘Always a more distinctive Pinot from ‘Champeaux’ with more of a blend of strawberries and
blackberries with a very deep colour always present. Tannins are a little dryer and rounder than
neighbours ‘Goulots’ and ‘Combe Aux Moines’. Guess what the vines here date back to - 1919!!! Say
no more?’
(Code: 2279) $125.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
25
GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2009 ‘LES CHERBAUDES’ 1er CRU
‘ Deepest colour in the entire range. Goodness the flavour is deep as well but a high degree of finesse
and more feminine in style. A complex blend of cassis, raspberry and loganberry fruits that finishes
lovely and round with no dry tannins just crisp and dry. A different type of ‘Cherbaudes’ but quite
outstanding..’
(Code: 2280) $102.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2009 ‘LES GOULOTS’ 1er CRU
‘ The vineyard ‘Les Goutots’ looks down upon some impressive vineyards and is the highest point,
along with ‘Clos St Jacques of Fourriers vines. It is quite exposed to the sun so is always rich and ripe
in fruit with ever so soft tannins. Therefore it is consistently the most expressive premier Cru in the
domaines range. The 2009 is faithful to the usual style and ever so stylish.’
(Code: 2280) $102.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2009 ‘COMBE AUX MOINES’ 1er CRU
‘ Combe Aux Moines lies immediately below ‘Goulots’ and just in front of ‘Champeaux. It is halfbounded by a rock face that creates a marvellous amphitheatre which is breathtaking. There are only
4 owners of the entire 1 hectares 81 ares surface with Fourrier owning only 34 ares. The vines were
planted in 1966 and the style is very masculine requiring long bottle ageing between 15 – 25 years.
One of my favourites and the 2009 is succulent and so typically complex’
(Code : 2281) $125.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2009 ‘CLOS ST JACQUES’ 1er CRU
‘ Now this is a blockbuster. So concentrated whilst being supple and soft on the finish. Here the vines
date from 1910 and the vineyard begins just behind the village of Gevrey and climbs to around 400
meters straight up the hill which is then protected by the forest on the top of the Cote. This is as good
as it gets and the 2009 is incredible. Wish we had more!’
(Code: 2282 ) $ 190.00/ BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

DOMAINE BART, MARSANNAY-LA-COTE
This year’s visit was a bit embarrassing as I started off my tasting with Pierre Bart then followed his
Mum Odile then her mother arrived. Mum said how nice it was to see me again as she remembered
the first time I visited. Some 30 years ago as she had a book with the exact date. She also said how
young I was then which was a great back-hander. Anyway we reminisced by tasting the entire range
together which was just a ‘special’ occasion. Grand Mum said she looked forward to tasting with me
in 30 more years!!! How young or old will she pronounce upon me then I will let you all know.
MARSANNAY ROSE 2010
‘ O.K. I know it is not 2009 but it is just fantastic and I was just too slow to order the 2009. However,
Pierre Bart thinks the 2010 is better than the 2009 as the yield was half that of normal but so intense
and fine. I could not agree more and for me one of the finest Roses in France – which is a big
statement. Be quick not a big stock.’
(Code: 2270) $21.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
FIXIN 2009 ‘LES HERVELETS’ 1er CRU
‘ The Pinots of Fixin were Napoleons favourite tipple. Why they even named a vineyard after the old
Emperor – Clos Napoleon; plus a restaurant in the village (good to). This wine is quite lush and very
ripe with good tannin and good acidity to give weight and length to the opulent palate. A nice bit of
spice (cinnamon) is the hallmark of this wine. A most impressive wine and I have to say it again – so
under-rated.’
(Code: 2271) $55.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
27
MARSANNAY 2009 ‘ LES GRANDS VIGNES’ VILLAGE
‘ This is the very first time we have bought this wine as the quantity made is very small and generally
allocated to long term clients. I thought I should beg for a piece of the action and I just think that
crying in their office did the trick. We have some and it is just so impressive and a steal at the price.’
(Code: 2272) $31.70 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
MARSANNY 2009 ‘LES CHAMPS SALOMON’ VILLAGE
‘ The ‘Champs Salomon’ is always a strawberry fruit bomb that is round, juicy and intense. No
change here and I know at lot of you out there just love this little gem. It evaporates in your glass as it
is so easy to drink and savour.’
(Code: 2273) $39.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’
BONNES MARES 2009 GRAND CRU
‘ Fragrant bouquet and similar to the heady 2008 vintage in style and character. That black chocolate
and cassis is present as usual and the palate just goes on and on. Needs to go into the cellar to fill out
over the next 8-10 years, at least. Great Grand Cru.’
(Code: 2274) $146.00 / BOTTLE ‘PRE-ARRIVAL’

Glassware - Reims
Les Authentiques No. 2 ‘Sonhyx’
We are pleased to announce a new range of Champagne flutes. For many years we
have been discussing with Gerard at ‘Verreries de la Marne’ the possibility of
producing a machine made version of this classic glass. It would need to be made in
one piece and from a resilient scratch proof material – to be dish-washer safe and more
robust. The mouth blown version is a superb glass – truly elegant – full of finesse – and
accentuates the bubbles very subtley. This new version is no less superb – virtually
identical in shape and design – a little heavier in the hand but slightly shinier and
smoother. Naturally being machine made it is cheaper. It is made from a new material
called ‘Sonhyx’. Highly recommended.
Only available in multiples of 6.
