The 2014 Legends
Joanna & Julie Dias – twin sisters and 1986 graduates of Southeast High School in
Ravenna led their cross country team to a 4th place finish at the State Cross Country
Championships in only its first year of existence in 1982. They went on to lead their
team to 3 consecutive State Titles (1983, ’84, & ’85) with an individual title for Joanna in
1983 and 2 titles for Julie in 1984 & 1985. In track, Joanna and Julie also ran on the 3time state championship 4 x 800m relay in 1984, ’85 & ‘86, leading Southeast to a State
Champion team title for 1985 running only distance events. At a time when the 4 x 800m
relay was on the same day as the rest of the meet, Julie made Ohio track history by not
only running the distance quadruple, but running very impressive times in each event.
She ran on the winning 4 x 800m relay (2:17), placed runner-up in the 1600 (4:57), took
3rd in the 800 (2:18) and captured 3rd in the 3200 (10:58)….all within a two hour span. Joanna added podium
places in three of those events to give Southeast the team title. Together they have a total of 10 state titles, as
well as an impressive 18th place finish at the Kinney High School National Cross Country Meet (Foot Locker)
by Julie in San Diego in 1985. After high school, both competed at the University of Arkansas as National
Championships qualifiers with their Razorback’s team in cross country. Their personal bests include Julie:
1600 – 4:57, 800m – 2:17, 3200 – 10:51; and 5000m 17:30, and Joanna: 1600 – 5:02, 800m – 2:18, 3200 –
10:58, and 5000m – 17:46. Currently, Julie coaches Cross Country and Track at Jackson Middle School (10
years) and Joanna recently started a Cross Country team for Chapel Hill Christian School for 5th & 6th graders.
Bob Mau – A 1983 graduate of Rocky River High school, Bob won two state cross
country titles in 1981 and 1982. He currently holds the Division I State Cross Country 5K
Record with a time of 14:58. He was also the 1982 state track champion in the 3,200m.
A stress fracture prematurely ended his senior year track season after qualifying for the
state meet in the 1600m and 800m. Other high school accomplishments include
qualifying for the junior national cross country team where he was the 2nd for the United
States and 31st overall in world championship meet at Gates Head, England. Also, he
placed 8th in the Kinney (Foot Locker) cross country national meet after winning the
regional qualifier. His best high school times were 1:53 (800m), 4:13 (1600m), and 9:11 (3200m). Bob
attended Northwestern University where he was a two time Big 10 Champion winning the 1500m and the
indoor 3200m relay in 1986. Bob holds PRs of 1500m - 3:42.71 and 800m - 1:50. He credits his high school
coach, Mike Foley, with making running a fun, lifelong sport. Bob currently runs 10-20 miles/week, and is also
enjoys road biking. Bob is currently in charge of Solution Delivery at ikaSystems, a cloud based healthcare
company. He has two sons, Kyle and James who both attend Hudson High School. Kyle runs for Hudson,
and was 3rd in the State Div 1 Cross Country Meet as a Junior.

Points of Interest
We will be using the IPICO Chip Timing System - a chip that is attached to the runner's shoe. There will be a
bullpen area at the finish of the race where water will be available and chips will be collected. If coaches have
runners that do not run or do not finish the race, they must turn in the numbers for those athletes at the
registration area. Schools will be charged $10 each for missing chip. Runners will also wear a bib number on the
front of their singlet that matches their chip number.
Coaches are asked to please cooperate in advance by:







Submitting rosters online at baumspage.com by at least one week prior to the meet.
Ensuring correct chips are securely placed on runners shoes... and all chips returned after race.
Times will be available at the 1 and 2 mile marks for each race.
Concessions and other vendors will be available beneath the grandstands.
Results will be available at www.gopherarun.com
Meet T-shirts will be sold at the registration area.
Restrooms are available under the grandstands and in adjacent buildings.
