Student Learning Expectations
1. Be willing to work in pairs and small groups to navigate through difficult solutions.
2. Complete your homework consistently, neatly, and be willing to explain solutions to peers.
3. Read the book for extra insight and research online resources (khanacademy.com, patrickjmt (youtube))
4. Learn how to “think” mathematically and not just “do” mathematics.
5. Be ready to be challenged on exams in a different manner style than previously seen.
6. Begin to understand the expectations for college math courses and the AP Test.
7. Justify ALL solutions. Answers without justification (work) will NOT earn full credit on exams!!
Common Sense Expectations
1. Put garbage in the garbage can and recycled material in the recycling bin.
2. Be respectful to others and be a good listener (LISTEN and SILENT use the same letters).
3. Homework is good practice for class and the test; do it every night!
4. Strive for excellence, not perfection. Perfection is impossible!
Grading
The grade will be based on homework, small quizzes, and tests. Homework and small quizzes will be worth 10% of
your grade and tests will be worth 90% of your grade. Your homework grade will be determined by random
homework checks and bold problems. Tests are worth 100 points and I will follow the district grading guidelines.
Homework
Homework is assigned nearly every night. I will give you a list of problems as well as bold questions that will be
turned in at the end of the chapter. Also, I will randomly check 1-2 assignments per week for completion. It is
important that you practice on a consistent basis. There is a good chance that you are very bright but practice makes
you perfect!!!
