"Praying Town: John Eliot and the Praying Indians" A documentary film by Zadi Zokou Learn about our Native American heritage in 1600s Massachusetts. John Eliot founded fourteen self-governing “praying towns” of Native American converts to Christianity, including those in Natick and Littleton. He had great success until all hell broke loose in the 1670s with the outbreak of King Philip’s War. Despite Eliot’s efforts, praying Indians were interned on Deer Island during the winter of 1675-1676 without adequate food or shelter.
