WALK TALK
Friday, May 12
1:30pm, Drop in fees apply
Melissa DeSmet is on a mission to understand the
values and priorities for adults over 50. “Everyone can
start somewhere and be more active, let's start where
you are”. She was the inaugural presenter on the topic
of aging for the college of physiotherapists of Alberta,
and is an “exercise is medicine” champion and content
contributor. She leads a team of rehabilitation
professionals who offer privately paid home visits to
help people manage their chronic conditions.
In this presentation Melissa will guide you through a
reflection of recent moments that had a positive impact,
highlighting personal values and priorities. We then
consider the relationship walking has to those values
and priorities. We troubleshoot barriers with a
discussion of safety and conclude with some inspiration
to get started today.
Speaker Series: Gordon Davies
Thursday, May 18
Time: 6:30pm, (Doors open at 6pm)
Cost: $5 member, $6 non-member
Do you have unanswered questions concerning
Cochrane’s history such as: Who chose the name of
Cochrane for the townsite? What was the major industry
in town in the early 1900s? Which Cochrane resident was
the speaker of the Alberta Legislature from 1905 until
1919? Gordon Davies and Bernice Klotz from the
Cochrane Historical & Archival Preservation Society
(CHAPS) will have a power point presentation showing
old photos of the town and articles from the Cochrane
newspaper “The Advocate” which existed between 1909
and 1924 or 25. Hopefully this presentation should
answer those questions as well as many others you may
have!
