Ways to get involved MUST Ministries Christmas Toy Shop mimics a small department store and we use many volunteers and donors to make this happen both in our Toy Shops and behind the scenes. Most of our volunteer shifts are full in Cobb (plenty of openings as of now in Cherokee), but we encourage you to help in other ways if you are only interested in helping at Cobb and can’t do any of the open shifts. Please see the information within this document. You can do these projects on your own or engage your company, church or other organization with which you are involved. The Toy Shop cannot be successful without our volunteers and donors! Off-Site Projects While the Toy Shop is getting set up and running, we need items daily. Just like a store, we run low or even out of items from time to time. Unlike a store that gets to order items, we stock our shelves with donated items. Please consider selecting one of the Off-Site Projects for your group. Stocking Stuffing: Take a pair of socks – place one sock into the other and push it to the bottom of the sock (that way the child will have a complete pair of socks). Place small items within the sock (hygiene items, small toys, nail polish, playing cards, and toothbrush). Tie the top with a ribbon (pink for girls, blue for boys); please follow our breakdown of ages and mark the box or bag these items are delivered in. 0 – 4 / 5 – 8 / 9 – 12 / 13 – 18. Please NO candy or razors in the stockings. We like to offer each of our 3100 children a stocking. We need as many groups as possible to make stockings for us. Do a Book Drive: While you are collecting books – if it is a book that you have read and enjoyed – leave a note for the next person telling them where the good parts are or the way you connected with a character. Please do not write your note in the book, but use a piece of paper or blank card. Do a Drive for Blankets, Underwear, Socks, Scarves, Gloves: We would like for every family to be able to get one blanket and for each child to get underwear, socks, scarves and gloves. Normally we do not get enough donations to accomplish this goal, but we really would like to try again this year! Please consider doing a drive – at work, in your neighborhood, at your church, with your book club – for any of these items. The blankets, scarves and gloves can be gently used (like new). The underwear and socks need to be new and be donated in the package in which they are purchased. Make a Christmas Card for a Family: This is another very important part of MUST Christmas Toy Shop. The families that come to us during this holiday season may not be feeling loved. This card project is the perfect way for you to show them that not only does our Savior love them, but you do, too. When making these homemade cards, please remember to sign it with ONLY your first name. We will pass them out to the families as they leave our Toy Shop with their goodies. Host a New Toy Drive: The MUST Christmas Toy Shops couldn’t exist without the generosity of our communities. Please select from the list below – let’s bless these children with new toys (unwrapped for the “shop”). Get others involved with what you’re doing and schedule a drop off date and time. Many moms have multiple children and MUST would like to offer something for everyone under the tree. For families with children as young as 1 or 2 months old, we have created a box that has both needs and toys in it for the baby of the family. Please select about 7 (or more) items from the list below and place them in a box that has been wrapped in pretty Christmas paper (from the outside only – so the items are still in view). Diaper (Newborn, 1 or 2 in size) Bottle Blanket Bib Washcloth Bath Towel Pacifier Sock Formula (any brand) Sleeper Burp Cloth Sight / Sound Stimulation Toy Baby Soap Rattle Secret Santa – Gifts for the Parents: On Saturday, Dec 13, we’ll hold three Secret Santa locations where some of the children choose a gift for their moms and dads, then our volunteers wrap them. We need new and very gently used items that you think the parents might enjoy. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity and continued support of MUST Toy Shop. Once you have selected your project, please let us know what you and your group will make, about how many you will make, and schedule a drop off date and time (even if you plan to drop off at the Donation Center). If you plan to drop off at the Donation Center (55 Chastain Road in Kennesaw), you may do so Tuesday through Saturday between 9 and 5. All boxes and bags MUST be marked TOY SHOP so they get to us (otherwise, they might go to other programs). If you would like to drop off at the Cobb or Cherokee Toy Shop after they open on December 8, you need to make an appointment to do so during the restocking shifts.
