a map - TAFE NSW International

Australia is the world’s sixth largest
country, the world’s largest island and
the only inhabited island continent. The
land was first inhabited 40,000 years
ago by the first ancestors of the current
indigenous people of Australia. Western
colonisation began in 1788 when the
English landed the First Fleet of convicts
in Sydney Harbour. In the decades that
followed, other cities were settled around
the nation’s coastline. The Commonwealth
of Australia was founded in 1901,
comprising six states and two territories.
“Australians accept you for who you are. Here you
are open to every culture, every cuisine, very diverse
people and they understand that you share different
values and beliefs.”

Sydney is the capital of New South Wales
and the largest city in Australia. The
population is over four million people,
and the combined city and metropolitan
areas spread from the world famous
Sydney Harbour all the way to the
beautiful Blue Mountains. People from
many different nations have settled
in Sydney. As a result there are many
cultural activities and cuisines to choose
from. The temperature ranges from cool
to hot, and even in winter Sydneysiders
enjoy sport and other outdoor activities.
The main public transport consists
of buses and trains, and there are also
ferries which travel the Harbour.
TAFE NSW campuses can be found in
every part of Sydney, from the inner city
to the Blue Mountains.
