2014 Summer School Information
Middle/High School
Fruitland Preparatory Academy will offer a limited number of one semester classes during summer school for
7th – 12th grade students. Students may earn 1-credit per class successfully completed. Classes will be held at the
Fruitland Preparatory Academy. Courses will cost $100, but are available at no cost for students who meet the
“at-risk criteria” (please see Page 5 for additional information).
Schedule
Students are only able to enroll in one course per session time.
Students may sign up for a credit recovery course and take a traditional course to earn two credits.

Credit Recovery Program – Students are able to work on Apex Learning credit recovery in the morning
session. *Students enrolled in credit recovery, who are planning to return to the high school in the fall of 2014,
must complete all coursework on or before Wednesday, July 16, in order to receive credit for their course.*
Cost
Payment is due at the time of registration. The cost for each course is $100. Please make checks payable to:
Fruitland Preparatory Academy. Receipts will be given at the time of payment. There is no cost to students
who meet the “at-risk” criteria or are an existing alternative school student. Please see Mrs. Arnzen or Mrs.
O’Neil for more information on whether your student meets the “at-risk” criteria. No grade will be given
without full payment.
Attendance Policy
Due to the concentration of summer school course content, ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. Students
participating in the traditional classroom setting are allowed a maximum of one (1) absence per class. Three (3)
tardies in any one class will be counted as one (1) absence. Students will be required to petition for credits if
they exceed the one (1) absence limit. Students who arrive 30 minutes late or leave 30 minutes early will be
counted absent. Multiple absences will result in a loss of credit. There are NO excused absences during summer
school. Students participating in the Credit Recovery Program are expected to attend the morning session.

Grades & Credits
All coursework must be completed by Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in order to receive credit. Students must earn
a 60% (D-) or better in order to be granted credit for the coursework. Summer school grades will be forwarded
to the home school. Fruitland Preparatory Academy is not responsible for ensuring that credit is awarded by
another school. A course completion slip will be given to the student and a copy sent to the home school.
High School Grades Credit recovery courses will be graded using the Pass/Fail system. Traditional classroom courses will be given
designated letter grades based on the percentages earned. Grades will be transcribed by the High School.
Middle School Grades –
Courses will be given designated letter grades based on the percentages earned. Grades will be transcribed by
the Middle School.
Electronic Device Policy
Computers - A computer agreement must be signed by each student and parent, and returned to school
within the first week of classes. Students must abide by all guidelines outlined in the computer user agreement.
Cell phones -Personal cell phones may be used during non-class times (designated breaks, before or after
school). Cell phones used in class without permission will be confiscated by the teacher and returned at the end
of the day. On the second offense, the cell phone will be confiscated, and returned to the parent only.
Music Players (MP3 players, iPods, CD players, etc.) –
These are not permitted to be used in the classroom during teaching time, unless otherwise approved by the
classroom teacher. Students working on classes through Apex Learning or Platoweb will be allowed to use
music players as long as they do not become a distraction.
Dress Code Policy
Students are not required to wear school uniforms, but must be dressed appropriately for school. No
inappropriate logos and wording will be allowed on articles of clothing. Symbols, mottos, words or acronyms
that convey crude, vulgar, profane, violent, death-oriented, gang-related, sexually explicit, or sexually
suggestive messages or advertising tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia will not be tolerated.
Tank top straps must be a minimum of two inches. Shorts and skirts will not be shorter than 4” above the knee.
No undergarments can be visible. Hats will be allowed as long as they are not a distraction, and at the teacher’s
discretion. Please dress appropriately to provide all students the best possible learning environment.
Code of Conduct
All student code of conduct policies and procedures are in effect during summer school. Policies can be
reviewed on the district website: http://www.fruitlandschools.org. Students and parents will receive a copy of
the Summer School Expectations for Success Handout upon attendance on the first day of class.
Registration Policies
In order for students to attend Fruitland Preparatory Summer School Program, they must have a signed referral
form from their home School Counselor. All application forms must be signed by the student, parent/guardian,
and home School Counselor. Additional signatures may be required for special programs. Please ensure that all

signatures are on the application prior to submission. All applications are due May 23, 2014, at the Fruitland
Middle School or High School office.
Transportation
Transportation will be the responsibility of the students for all sessions.
Lunch is NOT Provided
Since the morning session is released at 11:15 a.m., lunch will not be provided to students. Lunch in the Park
Program will be offered to all students at the Fruitland Community Park. No supervision will be provided.
