The VORTEX® antistatic holding chamber,
with its unique cyclone twist principle,
helps to overcome these drawbacks of
metered dose inhalers. When the patient
breathes in, the aerosol starts to move
in a circle. This is particularly effective
for directing the fine droplets to the
lungs, avoiding undesirable deposition of
medication in the mouth and throat.
With holding chamber:
Particularly if coordination is difficult, a lot of
medication can be lost on the way to the lungs:
The fine medication droplets can be breathed in
gradually from the holding chamber. Meanwhile,
the large droplets are trapped in the chamber:

“Press and breathe in“. This might be
the short version of the instructions for
use of a metered dose inhaler. But it is
not always so easy for many patients,
particularly children and the elderly. These
groups often have difficulty actuating the
metered dose inhaler and breathing in at
the same time. This could result in increased
deposition in the mouth and throat.
