Important Upcoming Dates
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
September 15
Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year. We are off and
running! Our open house was well attended and I saw
a number of smiling faces eager to get back to school. I
also noticed a number of smiling parents as well! We
have completed our second week of school and it
appears to have gone smoothly. We are excited to have
your children back. If I can be of any help to you this
school year, please give me a call. My phone number is
643-4331 ext. 110. I hope your children have a great
school year at TCE.

THANK YOU!
Ms.Ashlee Quilling is our third grade student teacher who is
a 2004 graduate from Menomonie High School. She is going
to college at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls majoring
in elementary education/early
childhood and with a special education minor.
Her hobbies are
playing volleyball, watching football
and spending time with family and
friends. Ms. Quilling wants to be a
teacher because she liked working
with kids and because kids have so
much potential. She believes that
a child's years in school really set
them up for the rest of their lives.
Teaching isn't just about science,
math, or reading...it is about
teaching children to be responsible
and respectful members of the community. She began making a difference in kids lives by student teaching in Australia
for two months this past summer. She will continue student
teaching with us until mid January. Our class really likes
Ms. Quilling because she is caring, nice and makes learning fun. Written by Rylie Andrews

On the Creative Side…
Just wanted to drop a line to say WELCOME
BACK! We are looking forward to another
school year making and creating and learning in the art room! And a reminder… I encourage kids to wear
paint shirts on messy
days (they are available
at all times). Most of the
products we use in the
art room will come out
with pretreatment and/
or soaking. There are,
however, students who
really “get into” their
work
(parents,
you
probably already know if this applies to your
child or not!) and accidents happen! So prepare for the inevitable and dress appropriately on art days!

What is Title I?
from the Nurse’s Office
www.GrowUpHealthy.org, promotes Five-Two-One-Almost None.
“Five stands for five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per
day. Fruits and vegetables are
packed with disease-fighting nutrients and give you energy, naturally.
*Serve at least one fruit or vegetable at every meal and snack. Try
all different colors.
*Dip veggies in low fat dressing.
Tuck them in whole wheat pitas.
Toss some on your pizza.
*Try and try again. It may take
children several tastings (10 or
more) before they begin to enjoy
certain foods.”

up the difference between rich
and poor communities, the government gives some extra money
to the poorer schools.
We are eligible for this help because
we have low-income families who
request free or reduced-cost
lunches for their children.
Research in education has found that
children who live in low-income
homes or low-income communities
tend to have more trouble in reading and math.
It’s not because
those children are less smart as
kids who live in wealthier homes. It
has to do with how many chances
they get to practice their skills, how
many learning materials or opportunities they have available to them,
how many learning experiences they
have outside school, etc. To make

As a Title I parent your rights and
responsibilities
You have a right, under the federal
law that governs Title I, to request
information about the qualifications
of your children’s teachers and instructional aides. You may ask for
information on:
∗ Whether the teacher has met
state qualifications and has a license for the grade level and subject he/she teaches.
BOOK FAIR!!
We spend Title I funds on resource teachers who have special
training in reading instruction.
∗ Whether the teacher has an
emergency or provisional license.
∗ What degrees the teacher holds
and the field of discipline of
his/her certification or degree.
∗ The qualifications of any instructional aides serving your
children.
You have a responsibility to enter into a school/parent goal
setting process. That goal setting makes clear that you agree
to work as a partner with the
school in the education of your
child. You will sign it at your
child’s fall conference
We’re looking for volunteers to help with the Book Fair.
Please contact Mary Rasmussen at 643-4331 Ext 166 if
you are able to help!
