ERIC MARKLE, who calls Russellville his home town, has been selected as the General Manager for Diamondhead. He holds a B.S. in Hospitality Administration from Arkansas Tech. In
addition to numerous restaurant management credentials, Eric has golf resort experience.
Getting his feet on the ground running, Eric participated in the tournaments over the weekend
where he met several residents.
He said he is a bit reluctant to have the title General Manager because “it is all about us doing this together.” “I am bringing 26 years of knowledge here in food service, construction,
and golf. With the team effort I see out here, we are just going to keep making it better,” said
Markle, :”there aren’t going to be any big changes, just improvements,” he continued.
Now that Todd is wearing one hat (most of the time) he will have more time to focus on tournaments. Eric’s expertise in food service and catering will allow us to host diverse events and
more profitable tournaments.
Meet ERIC MARKLE Sunday, October 10th from 3—5 p.m. at welcome reception n the clubhouse. (excerpts from the Sentinel-Record)

Patriot Day is a day sanctioned by the PGA & USGA when golfer’s have the opportunity to participate in a
cause that provides support to military dependents of those men and women who gave their lives or were disabled serving our great nation. The cause is called “ The Folds of Honor Foundation.”
The Diamondhead Community took on this challenge and stepped up to the tee. Collecting $5,500.00 through
pledges for a job well done. Brian Belz, son of DH Golf Pro, Todd Belz , son of Laurie Belz and sister to Hannah, he did the work for all just for fun. What started in the dark at 4:00 a.m. ended 11 hrs and 40 mins later.
Brian had accomplished his 252 holes as promised, he did it his way. Brian was a little fatigued but had a smile
for all as he raised his hat to the cheers he received. Thank you Brian you are a very special young man and we
all appreciate you in so many ways. You did GREAAT!!! We will see you next year. Thank you to all the volunteers who worked. A special thanks to Brian’s family, Don Smith, Kevin Woodrow, Angela Coldewey and
Ron Perisho who stumbled. It is a good cause.

Friends of the
Library
An organizational meeting of the
new Friends of the Library was held
at the home of Vicki Schanlaber
with 16 in attendance. The first
order of business is to raise funds
to have additional shelves built in
the library to match the existing
shelves. The top two levels of the
existing shelves are too high for
practical usage. There will be a
donation box placed in the 19th
hole. Anyone who enjoys the convenience of having a small Library
in Diamondhead is encouraged to
make a donation. Due to the shortage of shelf space the library is not
accepting any new books at this
time--only retuned books. Please
save your new books for the time
we can accept them--hopefully
soon. The next meeting will be
Monday, October 18th at Vicki's
home. Submitted by Barbara
Schenke, Volunteer Librarian
Youth &

welcome. Children under 10 should
be accompanied by an adult. Fun
and games for all ages. Donations of
cookies and candy are needed.

Beautification to Decorate
I’m sure you have noticed that the gate decorations around the fountain change with the seasons. This is all due to the diligent work of the Beautification
Committee. The committee put a
lot of time and money into the
entry of the clubhouse and it
looks wonderful. But, like all projects tend to do, they have depleted their funds. Plan on cooking a donation for
the annual BAKE SALE. November the 18th at the
club there will be loads of food and a great time.
Quilters & Care Caps
Quilters started back up in September and
meet every 2nd Thursday. Donna Henry is
teaching a pattern called "X Marks the
Spot" but you can bring your own project.
Meeting are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the large room
at the Club, ordering lunch from the 19th Hole. Beginner & experienced quilters are welcome.
Care Caps will be meeting again on October 12 at 9
a.m. (until 2 p.m.) at Fellowship Hall of Diamondhead
C. Church. The Men's Prayer Breakfast group will provide lunch for us, free-will offering accepted. Sewers
and non-sewers are invited to attend, there's a job for
everyone! It's a very worthwhile project & you will feel
rewarded by participating. This is NOT a church but a
community outreach project. Care Caps are primarily
for cancer victims under going chemo & losing their
hair. The caps are GIVEN through hospitals and cancer centers.
PUBLIC NOTICE
Lake Catherine Waterworks and Sewer Facilities Board of Garland County
The Lake Catherine Waterworks and Sewer Facilities Board of
Garland County is giving public notice of their intent to file an
application for financial assistance with the USDA Rural Development Authority. The proposed project hopes to secure loan
funds with which to purchase the water and sewer facilities now
belonging to Riviera Utilities of Arkansas, Inc., and to operate
those facilities for the benefit of the residents of the Diamondhead Community. This project will benefit Diamondhead residents and users in both Garland and Hot Spring Counties.
There will be a public meeting at 7:00 P.M. on November 9th,
2010 at the Clubhouse at Diamondhead, 245 Independence
Drive, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71913. Information will be provided about the proposal and comments may be given concerning the project and any potential economic or environmental
impact.

From Mary Griffin: I had neck surgery on
July 29 and stayed thru rehab and released on August 27. I have missed out
on a lot from Diamondhead and just now
getting to my emails. I want to praise our
community and my church, Diamondhead Community Church. I received visitors, cards, calls and lots of prayers.
Thank you all for caring. I have always
said we live in the best place in the world
I am improving slowly and grateful for
that. From me to you: keep your mobility
going, you don't know how important it is
until you get in my position. Thank you
everyone.
Russ Chappell has checked in with

The Christmas for Kids tournament
had a great turnout. 34 teams of 4
played on Saturday raising money for
this worthwhile cause.
The 3rd Annual Swinging with the
Angels hosted 14 teams. Benefiting
the Guardian Angel Cat Shelter in
Indian Hill Shopping Center, over
$2000 was raised. Barbeque dinners
were prepared by B & B (Bob & Bill or
Bill & Bob) following the tournament.
This note from Barbara Schenke:
“The shelter is a wonderful facility all
manned by volunteers and funded by
their thrift shop, fundraisers and donations. If you get a chance come by
and see the facility--Diane Jones & I
are there every Tuesday and we'd
love to show you around. We needs
some caring and responsible people
to adopt some of our beautiful,
homeless cats.”
