Long Beach leaders on Tuesday authorized a new lease agreement for the Queen Mary, which
involves the city borrowing millions upfront to begin tackling urgent infrastructure repairs on the
historic ship.
The agreement between the
city and Urban Commons, a real
estate investment firm, is the final step in a years-long negotiating process that will accelerate future development of the 42
acres surrounding the vessel, expected to include a retail and dining plaza and an outdoor entertainment venue.
“We’re finally down to the end
of the wire here,” City Manager
Pat West said on Tuesday.
The complex deal involves Long
Beach issuing a bond of approximately $17.2 million, backed
by its Tidelands Fund — which
