The Statue of Liberty The construction The statue of Liberty was built on April 1875 21th in France by Auguste Bartholdi. The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. Measures ● The Statue is 46,05 meters high and the pedestal is 46,94 meters high which makes a total height of 93 meters. ● Materials: Copper,steel and iron. ● Weight: almost 201 tons. ● The Statue of Liberty is topped by a seven-pointed crown : these represent the seven continents of the world (North America , South America , Europe, Africa , Asia, Oceania and Antarctica) Where does it come from ? . She was built in France , in Glatigny, on April 21st 1865. It was a long and expensive project. Auguste Bartholdi and Gustave Eiffel started the technic part. Bartholdi did the outside construction and Eiffel did the inside construction. This project started in 1876 and finished in 1884 . After that , in 1885 ,the statue was dismantled before being sent to New York. The inauguration took place in New York on July 4 th 1886, . Why was it offered to America ? The statue was a present for the Americans to celebrate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.
