STUDENT-CENTERED
PROGRAM
INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS ACADEMY (iNaCA) IS A COLLEGE PREPARATORY,
ONLINE PRIVATE SCHOOL for students in grades K–12. Our superb program
challenges and inspires young minds, provides a strong foundation in the basics, and

we do. With the student at the heart of every decision, lessons can be customized to
make learning a rewarding experience—and to achieve the best possible results.
With iNaCA, the teacher, curriculum, and parent or Learning Coach work together
to support, enrich, and personalize the student’s learning. We call this approach the
Learning Triad. In the pages that follow, you’ll learn more about each element of the

OUR CURRICULUM:
BUILT FOR SUCCESS
EDUCATION SHOULD HELP PREPARE STUDENTS for work, college,
and life. And at the foundation of a good education, you’ll find a
strong curriculum.
We have developed, tested, and refined the Connections Education curriculum to
ensure that it meets state, national, and international standards as well as those set by
leading educational organizations. Most importantly, our curriculum is designed to meet
the diverse needs of our students.
But the work doesn’t stop there. We’re committed to continuous improvement,
reviewing and revising our curriculum regularly. As part of this ongoing review, we ask
students and parents in the Connections Education community to rate each lesson on
a five-star scale. We’re very proud that nearly five million reviews have resulted in an
average lesson rating of 4.2 out of 5.

Elementary School Teacher
Rita came to iNaCA with 16 years of experience teaching in traditional K–12
educational settings. She got her first taste of online instruction as an adjunct
professor at a community college, and she quickly embraced the concept of being
able to expand educational access beyond the confines of a physical classroom.
“I love the fact that iNaCA gives kids from around the world options for getting a
high-quality education. Whether they’re living in a remote rural area, traveling with
family, or pursuing passions that might range from touring with a Broadway show to
competing in figure skating, they can learn at their own pace and get individualized
attention on a schedule that makes sense for them.”
Rita earned her BS in mathematics at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York,
and went on to earn her MA in educational media design and technology from Full Sail
University in Winter Park, Florida.

Lucas Barker
Grade 3
Looking for a school that would allow him the scheduling
flexibility to pursue his acting career, Lucas Barker made
the switch to International Connections Academy. Lucas
sometimes spends long hours on set for his acting roles—
including parts on The Mentalist on CBS, Justified on FX, and
several national commercials—so he takes his schoolwork
with him. “I’m often attending auditions, in rehearsal, or on
set during the day, so I really like that I can complete my work
anywhere. I also like being able to hit pause on the lesson at
any time and finish it up later, even on the weekend,” he says.
His mom, Kim, is pleased that iNaCA’s learning approach
gives him incentive to work hard. “He is very independent
now. He is dedicated to getting his work done because he knows
he has to be a good student if he wants to continue acting.”

THE ON-RAMP
TO SUCCESS
STUDENTS ENTER A NEW WORLD OF ACADEMIC GROWTH AND PERSONAL DISCOVERY
in middle school. iNaCA helps them reach their potential and prepare for the endless
opportunities available to them.
In grades 6–8, students sharpen their language arts, math, and critical-thinking skills
through a blend of online and offline work. They also deepen their understanding
of history and science. Through exciting electives, students learn new skills, find art
in everyday life, and explore new technologies. They can also join clubs that enrich
them in new ways, like learning about robotics or writing for the school newspaper.
Gifted students can even start earning high school credits early.*

Meghan Nettuno
Grade 8
As the youngest of three sisters who attend iNaCA, Meghan
comes from a family for whom “together time” is very
important. Being able to take family vacations whenever it was
convenient for them is what convinced her parents to enroll
the girls in an online school. The ability to take an amazing
array of electives and participate in a wide range of clubs is
what ultimately drew them to the school.
Meghan loves her science and history classes and especially
appreciates the additional support she gets from her principal
and advisors. As much as she enjoys her course work, what
Meghan likes best of all about iNaCA are her club activities.
Her participation in the Pen Pal Club, Sky Gazers Club, Pens
and Lens student literary magazine, and Debate Club has
allowed her to learn new skills and connect with other
students with different backgrounds around the world.
As for what she’d like to do with her education and passion
for science, Meghan says she’d “like to go to college to
be either an ornithologist or a paleontologist.” Because of
iNaCA’s strong curriculum and extracurricular enrichment
opportunities, Meghan should be very well prepared to pursue
her interests, wherever they take her.

HIGH SCHOOL IS ABOUT SETTING GOALS AND REACHING THEM. We encourage
students to aim high—and then to fly.
Our 9–12 education features a core curriculum including math, science, English, and
social studies. Electives in varied topics such as digital photography, marine science,
game design, and world languages encourage students to explore and grow to become
well-rounded individuals. Honors and Advanced Placement® (AP) courses provide the
challenge needed for college preparation. Students can also prepare for the future by
taking part in iNaCA’s college acceleration programs (see page 18) or by joining college

Class of 2015
As a Level 10 gymnast in the Junior Olympic program,
Kiarra needed a high school schedule that was as
flexible as she is! Each week, she spent 37 hours at the
gym. iNaCA made it possible for her to arrange schoolwork
around her training. Plus, when she traveled for meets,
Kiarra could easily take her studies on the road.
Kiarra and her family appreciated our strong academic
program. She took rigorous Honors and AP courses and
earned top grades. “I’m glad that my classes challenged me,
because I learn best when I really get into my work. I had
good relationships with my teachers. They did a great job
of being available to help me when I needed it,” she says.
In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Kiarra earned
a generous academic scholarship to Yale and plans to
become a doctor.

Hardworking athlete Mac Roy enrolled with Texas Connections

While Mac appreciated the strong academic foundation

Mac found what he was seeking when he transferred to iNaCA;
he remained with our online private school through graduation
and grew to be a self-reliant and responsible student, fully
prepared for college. He explains, “No one was reminding
me to do my work every day. I was always traveling and had
to stay on top of my daily tasks. That helps me now that I’m

Jordan Windle
Student
Profile
Grade 10
Jordan Windle is one of the best divers in the world. In 2014, Jordan
won more medals than any diver competing at the Junior National
Championships. Now, Jordan has his sights set on the 2016 Olympics,
where he hopes to compete once again for Team USA.
To achieve his goal, Jordan moved to North Carolina in order to train with
Nunzio Esposto at Duke University. iNaCA has been hugely important in Jordan’s life. The school’s flexibility helps
Jordan juggle schoolwork and his rigorous training and competition schedule; its high quality means that he doesn’t
have to choose between diving and getting a top-notch education. He has participated in the “It Gets Better”
anti-bullying campaign, and he even did a Super Bowl commercial for Visa! The high caliber of the education Jordan
is receiving provides a solid foundation for whatever path he will choose once he has completed his diving career.

Making an
informed
decision.
Switching schools can be a life-changing decision for many families,
so it’s important to learn as much as you can about virtual school
before you start. Private school may not be the ideal fit for your
child, but rest assured: Connections Education has other options
that may work better.
While adjustments are necessary, changing your child’s education
to one that is more personalized and flexible gives you the power
to transform your child’s outlook on learning—for the better!
Parents also tell us that being involved in their child’s education is
tremendously rewarding and enhances family closeness.
MAKING A
SMOOTH START
ONLINE EDUCATION CAN STRENGTHEN FAMILY TIES and provide the individual
attention children need to thrive, but getting started can be a big change. That’s
why International Connections Academy offers a robust assortment of orientation
activities and resources. Our onboarding program helps ensure that every family
receives the support and tools they need to effectively transition to online school.

Bakken Family
Braeden, grade 8; Peyton, grade 3; Marshall, grade 10
Tiffani Bakken enrolled her son Braeden in iNaCA after
he was diagnosed with cancer. Having a flexible schedule
made it possible for Braeden to keep up with school while
traveling to receive the specialized healthcare he needed.
With Braeden’s immune system compromised, the family
also wanted to limit exposure to contagious illnesses, so
Tiffani enrolled Marshall and Peyton the following year.
Even though Braeden’s cancer is in remission, the
family continues with iNaCA for the quality education.
Says Tiffani Bakken, “We love it! My children had good
grades in their previous schools, but once I became
more actively involved, I saw that their education was
lacking. Their teachers at iNaCA have been wonderfully
responsive, helping them to improve their writing skills
and vocabularies. I also like being there to give my kids the
attention they need.”
