Target Heart Rate (THR)
To find your Resting Heart Rate (RHR), you will need to relax your
body. To get the most accurate RHR reading you will need to check it
first thing in the morning.
Your Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) is a high level in which you
should not be exercising. If you reach your MHR, you should slow
down your activity and monitor your breathing. If you feel any
tightness in your chest, you should notify your teacher ASAP.
The Target Heart Rate Zone (THR Zone) is the activity level your
heart needs to operate in to continually strengthen the heart muscle.
This zone is between 60 and 80% of your Maximum Heart Rate.
Below is the formula for calculating your THR Zone. Please
calculate your THR in the section below labeled Your Target Heart
Rate.
220 – your age = Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)
MHR X .6 (60%) = low end of THR
MHR X .8 (80%) = high end of THR
Target Heart Rate Zone: 60%-80% of your MHR
