Students also made letters and cards for their special guests. Thanks to all the families who were able to enjoy the day with us! 2 Technology is Fun! Mrs. Chapin has a new role this year. She is now Putman’s computer lab instructor. She has been busy assisting students as they engage in various programs that will prepare them for future technological endeavors. The past few weeks 2nd and 3rd graders have been working on creating their own animations in the computer lab. Mrs. Chapin had a short lesson on what animation is and the different types of animation. Then, they got to be animators! The kids have loved it and it was great to see their creative side. It's also a program anyone can do at home. It's located at www.ABCYa.com. Here is a picture of a couple of 3rd grade students working on their animations. Did you know...the district has provided 13 Chromebook carts that first, second and third grade students can utilize in their classrooms? Students in Mrs. Slusher’s classroom used Wixie, a program purchased by the school, to practice creating dialogue between characters in stories. 3 National Geographic Science Students and staff have been enjoying the kick-off of the newly adopted National Geographic Science program. Some students in first grade explored scientific tools by looking closely at fossils and shells. Other first graders studied pushes and pulls and created their own boats to demonstrate the forces. Students in second grade have experimented with forces, including pushes and pulls, gravity and magnets. Students in third grade have studied fossils of plants and animals. They compared and contrasted them and identified vertebrates vs invertebrates. They also studied life cycles by watching caterpillars transform into butterflies that they were able to release! 4 Around the School... 3 Screen Productions delivered a presentation to students on the power of friendship and making good choices. After the program, students in grades 1-3 learned about the new Buddy Bench located on their playground. Students are encouraged to use the bench to make new friends. All students at Putman participated in a bus safety talk put on by Blanchester Schools’ transportation department. Students learned about the rules on and around the bus, and even got to see a can crushed by the bus’ “killer tires.” Miss Plummer’s Wildcats were prepared for spirit day! Students in Mrs. Looney’s 2nd grade room have been working on writing numbers to 1,000. Congratulations to Riley for being the first one finished! Second graders in Mrs. McCann’s Classroom have been practicing their math facts to earn their “belts” in Karate Math. 5 Kindergarten Activities Kindergarten students in Mrs. Purdon’s classroom started a rhyming project to aid students in coming up with 3 words that rhyme. Each student had the opportunity to practice working cooperatively. Below are pictures of the beginning stages of the project. Another skill they are learning involves sorting objects by their attributes. Kindergarten teachers also read, The Little Red Hen and made their own homemade bread and butter. 6 MEET OUR SENSATIONAL SPECIALS STAFF Mrs. Mulvihill Mrs. Pembleton How long have you worked at Putman?
