Suggest ways to improve one's fitness level. B. Exercise and Rest: The student understands that a proper balance of exercise and rest contributes to high levels of fitness. 1. ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, and OTHER DRUGS The student will understand that all chemical substances produce some affect on the body and have potential to be abused. A. Effects of Drugs: The student will understand that a drug is any substance which, when taken into the body, makes it work differently. 1. Distinguish between drug and non-drug substances. 2. Realize that all drugs have an effect on the way the body and mind works (e.g. dependency, reactions and loss of control). 3. Cite individual differences that cause people to react differently to drugs (e.g. body size, mood, sensitivity, metabolism, tolerance, dosage). B. Alcohol, Caffeine, and Tobacco: The student will realize that alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine are drugs which are commonly used in our society. 1. Explain how the marketing of these products and substances affect society. C. Classification of Drugs: The student understands that drugs are classified by their effect, their source and their level of use. 1.
