YOUR INTERVIEW DETAILS BA Primary Education 3-7 for ITT Congratulations, you have successfully been selected for an interview at the University of Northampton. The interview process will be kept as informal as possible and is aimed at helping us to get to know you and help you decide whether this is the right course for you. Please accept your interview date through UCAS. If you have extenuating circumstances which means you cannot attend on the scheduled day, please email [email protected] prior to your interview date. This allows for your documents to be checked prior to attending your interview. On arrival please register in Rockingham Library on Park Campus. Please read the information below and check that you have all the documents (originals and copies) ready for checking. If you do not have any of the original certificates, then please arrange to get copies from exam boards – enrolment will not be possible unless original certificates are seen. Car Parking Directions to Park Campus and a campus map can be found on our website at the following link Please note that the student car park (car park 3) is free to visitors during the day. However it can be quite busy, so please allow enough time to find a space. In order to gain access to the student car park you will need the barrier code: *2591# The barrier code should be entered on the keypad on either of the two access barriers at the entrance to the student car park at Park Campus (Car Park 3). • • The * 'star' and # 'hash' must be included as part of the barrier code. An intercom to the Security Lodge is located on each barrier if difficulties arise. Campus Tour Starting from the registration point in the Rockingham Library, current student ambassadors will provide a comprehensive tour of the University facilities. If you are being interviewed in the afternoon, this will take place in the morning so please arrive at 10:45am. If you are being interviewed in the morning, this is available at 1pm. Tours may take up to 45 minutes and parents and guests are welcome to join tours. Preparation for the interview and teaching task All applicants for Initial Teacher Training must be deemed suitable to become a teacher. The University of Northampton Partnership will conduct interviews to assess if an applicant has the appropriate intellectual and academic capabilities and personal qualities, attitudes, ethics and values to meet the Teachers’ Standards. The interview involves a teaching activity where you will prepare to teach a group of other applicants and an individual interview. A) Your teaching task (approx. 15 minutes) All applicants are placed in small groups for this task. You need to plan to teach a group of other applicants, for approximately 5 minutes; as though you were teaching an introduction to a new topic to year 1 children (this is like a role play). You can choose any topic from the National Curriculum subjects (please look at this before the interview). 1. 2. After teaching you will then present to the group, for 5 minutes, what and how you would continue to teach this topic in order to ensure children made progress in their learning. You will be asked at least one question by the tutor/Head teacher who will be observing. This task will focus on your • Planning and organisation of the teaching task and presentation (bring your lesson plan and presentation plan) • Subject knowledge for the chosen topic • Use of chosen resources (bring everything you will need) • Interaction and engagement with others • Use of standard spoken English Please note: there will be no access to ICT (no laptops or IWB) during the teaching session. B) Individual interview (approx. 15 minutes) You will be interviewed individually by a University tutor and Head Teacher from a local Partnership school. This interview will focus on your • Commitment to teaching • Ability to reflect on personal learning and dealing with situations • Ability to reflect on school experience • Interest in and knowledge of education Letter about school experience, Suitability Declaration form and Disqualification by Association form You must have 10 days recent experience in the relevant Keystage for your course before enrolment. Please bring a letter from the school where you carried out your most recent school experience. This should be given to the University tutor who interviews you. The letter should be on school headed paper and state the dates when you were at the school and the year group you were in. It should also include a comment about your relationships with staff and children and give an indication of what you have been involved in during the experience. Please download a Suitability Declaration Form and Disqualification by Association form and bring into interview or send in by post. DBS documents – to bring to interview All people who work with children and vulnerable adults must have clearance from the Disclosure and Baring Service which must be in the form of an Enhanced Disclosure. Any offer from us is conditional upon such clearance. You will not be able to enrol until this is returned. This needs to be completed online by June 30th 2017. There is a fee which you will need to pay to complete this. As part of the DBS application we need to check original identification and copies of the originals, in person. Therefore on the interview day please bring originals and copies of three different identity documents. The three documents most commonly used are: 1. Original valid passport 2. Photographic drivers licence card 3. Birth certificate If you do not have one or more of these documents, please refer to the DBS document available here Please also bring any name change documents such as marriage certificate/deed poll document if applicable. Qualifications – to bring to interview Please bring with you on the interview day, your original GCSE English Language, Mathematics and Science certificates. Please also provide a photocopy of each of the above. If you have already achieved A Levels or Level 3 qualifications, then bring the original certificates and a photocopy. It is extremely important to present your original certificates at this point to help us process your application as quickly as possible. Results slips will be acceptable at the interview stage, but original certificates will be required prior to enrolment. You will not be able to enrol until all original documents have been seen. If you have an equivalent level 2 qualifications then please declare this via email to [email protected] before interview so that they can be checked. Literacy and Numeracy Professional Skills tests All trainee teachers must pass the Literacy and Numeracy Professional Skills tests before enrolment onto the programme. These need to be passed by 30 June 2017 at the latest. You will be asked at interview if you have organised to attend a test centre and if you have attempted the practice tests. You will need to provide a copy of the forms when you have passed Booking the skills test Candidates can book their skills tests once they have submitted their application through UCAS Teacher Training. Should you wish to book in advance of submitting, you can do as long as an application is submitted before you attend the test centre. What to bring to the test centre Two forms of identification – a primary ID such as a passport, and a secondary ID for example a debit card. More information can be found on the STA website. Please also bring proof of your teacher training application. Evidence that will be accepted are: • a welcome email from UCAS Teacher Training • correspondence from your school or university • a copy of a completed UCAS Teacher Training application form • confirmation of, or an invitation to, an interview from your school or university For more information please visit: STA website Please note that if you do not follow this process, you will not be able to sit the test and may lose your first free attempt at taking the skills tests.
