Woodman Point
Attadale / Pt Walter
Kite Locations 2011/12
Guidelines to Perth & Surrounds
WAKSA encourages all kiters to keep out of all dune areas. Please access Beach 3 by walking along
beach front, not through dunes. This area is well known for car break-ins. Show appropriate caution
with your car & belongings.
Beach 1
u Always seek local advice on launch/landing due to the
small launch/landing zone and narrow beach.
u Please refrain from coming right up to the corner of
the limestone wall to turn so other kiters can get off
the beach quickly.
u Always roll up lines if kite is not being used
u Kiters are encouraged to clear the beach and kite on a
SE direction.
u Beginners are encouraged to launch/land or body drag
east of the main launch/landing zone.
Beach 2
u SW wind is on shore at this location.
u Show appropriate consideration to windsurfers and
other beach users at this location
Attadale
u Kiting at Attadale is only possible in E or NE winds. Due to a small and difficult launch/landing area,
WAKSA advises the spot is not suited to beginner kiters.
u Do not launch or land on the foreshore inside the fenced off area - this is a Dep’t of Environment
& Conservation bird sanctuary. (Exclusion zone 1)
u Please do not kite in or through the waters adjacent to the bird sanctuary.
u Launch/landing area is the small beach to the left (west) of the fenced off area.
u This area is also popular with dog owners and pedestrians. Please show appropriate caution when
launching & landing.
Point Walter
u Point Walter is well known for sharp rocks, only visible at low tide. Keep clear of the area marked to
minimise risk of injury or damage to boards.
u Two boat launching ramps operate to the east of the jetty - WAKSA encourages kiters to keep clear of
this area (see diagram - Exclusion zone 2)
u Jet ski’s and water skiing takes place nearby – show appropriate caution near PWC’s and motor boats.
u Large numbers of boats including commercial vessels operate in the channel each side of the Point
Walter sand bar - ensure you know the correct ‘right of way’ rules when kiting near the channels.
Beach 3
uWe strongly advise this spot is
suitable for advanced kiters only.
u SW wind is off-shore at this location
– kiters must be able to self rescue
if kiting at Beach 3.
u Keep clear of jetty and pumping
station.
u Please respect exclusion zone north
of pumping station – local council
restrictions in place.
u Don’t gybe in front of kiters heading
in towards the beach/no short tacks please follow circuit direction as per
diagram above to allow everyone to
perform their tricks.
Cottesloe
u Due to local government regulations (at this location),
all kiters at ‘Dutch Inn’ are required to have appropriate
public liability insurance. WAKSA membership provides
sufficient insurance to meet this requirement.
u Exclusion Zone 1: Due to the large number of swimmers
and walkers along this beach, launch/landing is prohibited
– please respect exclusion zone.
u Exclusion Zone 2: Due to the large number of swimmers
in this area, kiters are strongly encouraged to remain at
least 200m offshore.
u Kiters doing downwinders north of Swanbourne should
be aware of the rifle range – if red flags are up along
the beach, the range is in use. Kiters are advised to show
appropriate caution.
Welcome to the first edition of the WA Kite Surfing Association’s
Guidelines to Perth & Surrounds Kite Locations 2011/12.
The Guidelines are here to assist West Australian, interstate and
international kiters keep our beaches open for kite surfing. The
information contained in each location Guideline is based on
historical “do’s and don’ts” and feedback from local and regular
kiters at popular locations around Perth.
Whilst we encourage all kiters to comply with these Guidelines, they are not a rule book and are fluid
enough to be amended as necessary in the future.
As kiters, we have an obligation to do our best to keep local beaches open for kite surfing. WAKSA
urges all kiters to kite safely and responsibly at all times. Please refer to the CLEAR advice below for
additional information.
