BASEBALL
Ranked #12 in the preseason polls, the Arizona Wildcat Baseball team enters the
season with high expectations. After last year’s 36-27-1 team swept through the
NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals, the Wildcats accomplished something that they
haven’t since 1986—a trip to Omaha, Nebraska for the College World Series. While
finishing 6th in the polls for the 2004 season, this year’s team returns its key
offensive and defensive players that made last year’s team so exciting to watch. This
season the Wildcats are set to compete against some of the top teams in the country,
including preseason #1 ranked Texas who will make the trip to Tucson March 4-6. The
Wildcats will also take on defending national champions Cal State Fullerton in
California, as well as many top ranked Pac 10 teams. Get ready for a great season of
Arizona Baseball. Plus, Kids, don’t forget to come out to Cox Kids Day, Sunday, April
17 at Noon. The Wildcats will have lots of great games and activities for all kids as
well as a great baseball game against Oregon State! Don’t miss this great Cox Kids
Day!
SWIMMING & DIVING
The Arizona Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams have experienced their share of
highs and lows this season. After fast paced starts for both teams—each ranked
among the top-five in the country—Arizona has settled in as a national power to
keep an eye on. The Wildcats return 7 All-Americans, 12 letter winners, and
welcome 12 talented newcomers to a team that is expected to exceed last year’s
fourth place effort in the NCAA championships. Led by All-American seniors Byron
Jeffers, who specializes in the 200 free relay and Nate Stevens, one of the top
breaststrokers in the country, the Wildcats are relying on
experience to lead
this year’s team. The newcomers are certainly giving the returning swimmers a
challenge everyday in practice, working hard and pushing themselves to be the very
best. Expect this year’s core of talent, experience, and pure grit to shine through
as they swim toward another top finish at the NCAA Championships. Fans can catch
the Wildcats in their final home meet of the season Saturday, February 12 against
Interstate Rival ASU! The meet begins at 1:00pm and admission is FREE!

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Lute Olson and his hungry bunch of Wildcats find
themselves right where they imagined themselves in
the beginning of the season, sitting atop the Pac-10
standings with momentum on their side. Going into
the final half of the season, the Cats are improving in
all areas of their game. Shooting is getting better
and the Cats defense has been great! Seniors
Channing Frye and Salim Stoudamire are providing a
strong dose of leadership which has helped this team
to focus on their goal of making the tournament and
reaching the final four! Salim is proving that he is
the best shooter in college basketball by making just
about everything he shoots and Channing is proving
that the key is a tough place to share. Just ask
Hall of Fame Coach Lute Olson and he will agree,
Stoudamire’s shooting is beyond just good—he is
“on fire!” Freshmen Jawann McClellan and
Sophomore Kirk Walters have also stepped up
their play recently. The Wildcats know they
have to take the season one game at a time and
continue to use practice to improve their game
and their teamwork. While last year’s team relied
heavily on its 5 starters for scoring and minutes
played, this year’s team has done a great job of
sharing the responsibilities and that added depth
will only help during March Madness! Keep an eye
out for your Wildcats in March as they start
their trip to the NCAA Final Four, April 2&4!
Connect the
Dots!
After you’ve connected
the dots go ahead and
color it in!!!
(HINT: It’s the Arizona State Flag!)

Do you have a nickname that the rest of your team calls you?
Yes…my team has pretty much always called me Schelly.
Just because of your last name?
Yeah my last name, but mostly because there are three other Kelly's on the
team.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Yes. I have one younger brother who is 15 and I have a sister who is a
sophomore at East Carolina University.
Well we won’t hold that against her.
Yeah I know!
What is your favorite cartoon?
Well I always watched Scooby Doo…but I haven’t seen it in a while.
What made you want to come to The University of Arizona…besides the best
mascot in the nation?
When I took my recruiting trip down here the one thing that stood out above
every school that I visited were the girls on the team. My teammates are so
much fun and probably some of my best friends in the world. And the weather is
a whole lot better than Maryland.
What athlete do you admire or look up to the most?
I would have to say Dominique Dawes or Elise Rae… I trained with both of
them at a club back home and to see them performing at the Olympics was truly
amazing!
What do you want to do when you grow up?
I would love to be a child physical therapist. But, after I graduate this year, I
am hoping to still stay on the team as a graduate assistant trainer.
If you could eat only one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hah…chocolate…you can ask any one on the team, I love chocolate!
Well thanks for taking the time to talk with me.
That was probably the most fun interview I have ever had.
Well thank you, I’ve been practicing.

Health Tips for Kids
By, Head Athletic Trainer, Randy Cohen
In order for athletes to be at their best, they must follow a strict
diet! You should also eat healthy in order to grow to your full
potential! Here are some important facts for healthy eating!
Be sure to drink lots of milk! It’s the easiest way to get your 3
servings of calcium, which makes bones strong and helps you grow!
Always eat 5-7 servings of fruit and vegetables daily! So listen to
Mom or Dad when they make you finish your vegetables before you
eat dessert!
Don’t be afraid of carbs! Kids should eat 3-6 servings of bread,
whole grains, rice and pasta on a daily basis!

Do you have a nickname that the rest of your team calls you?
Yes…my team calls me California
Just because you’re from California?
Well kind of, it’s really more cause of the “Blonde California Girl”
stereotype.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Yes. I have one younger brother who is 16.
Is he a Wildcat fan too?
Definitely, he supports me and my team.
What athlete do you admire or look up to most?
Monica Seles is my favorite athlete!
Why Monica Seles, what makes her stand out to you?
She overcame such adversity, when she was stabbed and her dad died,
she fought through all of that to return to tennis and win.
On the lighter side, do you have a favorite cartoon?
Lilo and Stitch is really funny.
What do you like most about Arizona?
I really like the great weather and the friendly atmosphere around
campus.
If you could eat only one thing for the rest of your life, what would it
be?
Hah…bean and cheese burritos… Early in the morning or late at night,
they are always great!
If you could say anything to Kids Club members what would it be?
Well, tennis is really fun and try to do as much as you can while
you’re young, see the country and the world. It’s always fun to see
new things and places!
Well thanks for taking the time to talk with me.
No problem!
