Head Teacher Writes: Road Crossing Patrol

Issue 14
Term 5
May 2013
Head Teacher Writes:
This is amongst the busiest times of the
year in school, especially in Y6 with SAT
tests followed fairly closely by our two
residential visits. The
sudden and surprising
sunny Spring weather
has allowed our
playground activity
apparatus to be fully
exploited and it has been
good to see classes and
groups working outside
when possible. I hope that when we return
for term 6 the weather will enable us to
enjoy our sports afternoon on the 13th June
as I know the children are excited about it.
As we approach the end of term and
topics, I have been pleased to have heard
such positive comments from parents and
carers about the learning the children have
been involved in. I would like to remind all
of you that there are lots of things to see
and explore on the school website which is
regularly updated. There are lots of video
clips and photos for you to explore and with
more than 24000 hits since the re-launch
it’s heartening that people are using it for
celebration and information. I hope you all

will be on Ridgeway Road as usual.
On Friday 26th April the hall was packed full of parents, carers children and staff for the annual
Fish and Chip Quiz Night. It was a keenly contested and thoroughly enjoyable evening. Many
thanks to Helen,Debbie, Claire and Steve
for their hard work and funds raised for the
school. Congratulations to the "Not so old
Fogeys" for their sterling, winning
performance." Not only was this a super
evening, but also the Friends made £75
profit for the children’s benefit. Please
remember that the next Friends meeting
is on Tuesday 21st May at 3.20pm to
discuss the Summer Fayre, please
come!
On Friday 3rd May the School
Council met with planners
from Bristol City Council, to
discuss ideas linked to a new
park ,which is proposed to be
built on the playing fields near
Moorlands Road. The whole
school had an initial
opportunity to contribute
towards the potential design
when the planning process
began in February. During the
meeting on Friday, the School
Council considered which

modified design would best suit
the needs of the children in this area. Consideration was given to health and safety issues,
access and inclusion as well as the importance of fun! As part of the meeting, the School Council
put the designs in order of preference and a winning selection was made. This design will now
be advanced and work to create the new park is due to start in June. During the building of the
park pupils from the School Council will hopefully be able to visit the site and see their
contribution to the local area coming to life.
