Thanks! EDS Spartan Yearbooks The EDS Spartan Yearbook’s will be delivered the week of May 11th! Students in Yearbook Club should mark their calendar for Monday, May 18th for the Yearbook Unveiling Pizza Party. School-wide distribution will take place later that day. A few extra copies have been ordered if your student did not place an order in January—the cost is $45.00 each on a firstcome, first-served basis. Safety Drills This past Monday EDS had a fire drill. Next Tuesday, May 12th, we will have our severe weather drill. Tuesday, May 19th we will practice our intruder on-campus drill. And May 26th, we will rehears the intruder in-school drill. May 7, 2015 The Auction at EDS – After months of planning the Auction at Erie Day School is ready to go for Saturday, May 9th. Join in the auction bidding fun while being entertained by the International music of Stephen Trohoske and The World Ensemble! In the Auction Pre view Catalog (look in your child’s Thursday Folders and through SchoolSpeak), you will read a sampling of what will be available for purchase. With live and silent auction items, there is something for everyone. This Catalog will give you a chance to think about potential vacation locations, delight that special someone with a Spa Package, or treat your child to a special session with his/her favorite teacher. Note that this Pre view Catalog includes most, but not all, live and silent auction items—some have arrived this week! Thank You! - The Whale of a Sale Committee would like to give a ‘whale’ of a thank you to the EDS community for a very successful spring sale! There are many people to thank, beginning with all of those who donated items. Thanks to the Young family for the use of their trailer, and the Middle School for their help in emptying the goods. Erie Day School Performing Arts Recognition—EDS Playhouse performers will be recognized at a special Friday Morning Meeting on May 15th. Mrs. Lachowski is organizing the event and details will be communicated as the date draws closer. Parents are welcome to attend. Arts Walk - Mark your calendars as preparations are underway for the EDS Arts Walk the evening of May 15th. This is your opportunity to see all the creative works our students have been working on all year. Music and refreshments will be provided as well as you tour through the hallways and classrooms of EDS viewing the art. May 7, 2015 Fun Paint Run—Erie Day School’s 3rd Annual Fun Paint Run & Walk is being held on Saturday, May 23rd at Frontier Park with registration starting at 8:00 a.m. and the Run/ Walk starting at 9:00 a.m. Boys, girls, fathers, mothers, friends and families can all get in on the crazy paint fun and turn the color of a rainbow by participating in this unique event. Run or walk through Frontier Park while being painted (volunteers will be spraying colored water) the shades of a rainbow at red, orange, yellow, blue, green and purple ‘paint stations,’ (a complimentary Fun Paint Run tshirt will be distributed to all participants). The Fun Paint Run is a loop around the park property – following its paths and trails – the more loops you do, the more colorful you get. Whether you’re an experienced runner or a casual walker – this event is for you. Look in your child’s Thursday Folder for the registration form. It will also be on the EDS website at www.eriedayschool.com. Online registrations will be available next week through www.RunSignUp.com. Summer Camps and Educational Program Parent Survey—Many thanks are extended to parents that completed the EDS Parent Survey. We had a great response and are implementing suggestions for the 2015-16 school year. Erie Day School’s Summer Camps and Educational Program for children provides enrichment for students who wish to express their creativity, learn a new skill or gather with new and old friends. Every session is held on campus at Erie Day School. Campers can register for the Erie Day School Summer Educational Program and/or Summer Camps morning and/or afternoon sessions - please refer to specific descriptions further in the brochure for specific dates and times. All students attending 2 sequential Camps or the day-long Summer Educational Program will need to provide a brown bag lunch (supervision will be provided). Each weekly Camp tuition is required for all participants by May 29th while Summer Educational Program tuition is due in advance and will be required by May 29, June 26th and July 31. Rigging, knot tying, compass reading, are just a few of the educational outcomes that are sure to occur on this afternoon sail. Rescheduled—Spring Location Transformation (Spring Clean-up) & Hoop House Build - The Spring Location Transformation (Clean-up) & Hoop House Build has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 16th. Volunteers will be needed along with their rakes, gloves, shovels, pitchforks, weedwackers and edgers -- to help transform our playground and common areas with mulch, plants and flowers and also build our first ‘Hoop House’. This busy day will be capped-off with a complimentary picnic lunch including Smith’s hotdogs at 11:30 a.m. This is also a great opportunity for parents to earn EDS service hours or older students to receive needed service hours. Spring Fling—Middle School students are invited to the annual Spring Fling on Thursday, May 14th beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m. Students are encouraged to dress-up for the big event—girls in dresses and boys in ties. DJ John will play the music and light refreshments will be served at the Erie Art Museum at 10 East 5th Street, downtown. The cost of admission is $10. Sports Awards Ceremony—Mark your calendar for Thursday, May 21st for the annual EDS Sports Awards Ceremony. Any child that participated in a sport this year is invited to attend.
