WHEREAS, the Open Public Meetings Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-11, permits boards of
education to meet in closed session to discuss certain matters;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the West Essex Regional Board of
Education adjourns to Executive Session to discuss Personnel, Student, Negotiations
and/or Litigation matters; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that public release of these discussions will occur
when the need for confidentiality no longer exists.

WHEREAS, NJSA 18A:21-2 and NJSA 18A:7G-13 permit a Board of
Education to establish and/or deposit into certain reserve accounts at year end,
and
WHEREAS, the aforementioned statutes authorize procedures, under the
authority of the Commissioner of Education, which permit a board of education
to transfer anticipated excess current revenue or unexpended appropriations into
reserve accounts during the month of June by board resolution, and

(continued) WHEREAS, the West Essex Regional Board of Education wishes to
deposit anticipated current year surplus into a Maintenance Reserve Account at
year end, and
WHEREAS, the West Essex Regional Board of Education has determined
that an amount not to exceed $500,000 is available for such purpose of transfer;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the West Essex Regional Board of
Education that it hereby authorizes the district’s School Business Administrator to
make this transfer consistent with all applicable laws and regulations.

To approve the appointment of Oniel Brown as a Maintenance/Painter, (2:30PM–
10:30PM, Monday-Friday), assigned to the Maintenance Department of the West
Essex Regional School District effective July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014,
pending receipt of appropriate paperwork, at an annual salary of $41,076.92.
This is Step 1 of the 2013/2014 Custodial Salary Guide for Maintenance staff
($40,513.00) plus evening differential ($563.92). Boiler license must be obtained
within first full year of service.
[NOTE: Mr. Brown replaces James Remo, who was terminated.]
5.
To approve Daniela Colabelli (ME) as a Science teacher assigned to West Essex
High School, at an annual salary of $58,530, which is Step B of the 2013/2014
Master’s Degree Teacher’s Salary Guide, effective September 1, 2013 through
June 30, 2014.
[NOTE: This is a NEW position due to increased enrollment.]
6.
To approve Katelyn Shaw (BA) as a Special Education teacher assigned to West
Essex High School, at an annual salary of $56,965, which is Step 1 of the
2013/2014 Bachelor’s Degree Teacher’s Salary Guide, effective September 1, 2013
through June 30, 2014.

To approve Stefanie Benson (MA) as a leave replacement Science teacher
assigned to West Essex High School, at an annual salary of $57,155, which is Step
A of the 2013/2014 Master’s Degree Teacher’s Salary Guide, effective September
1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.
[NOTE: Ms. Benson replaces Andrea Berthelot, who was previously approved for
an extension of her maternity/disability leave of absence at the March 21,
2013 Board meeting.]
8.
To approve Caroline O’Donovan (MA) as a 2/5th’s tenure track World Language
teacher and 3/5th’s leave replacement World Language teacher assigned to West
Essex Middle School, at an annual salary of $57,155, which is Step A of the
2013/2014 Master’s Degree Teacher’s Salary Guide, effective September 16, 2013
through March 2, 2014.
[NOTE: Ms. O’Donovan replaces Christine Sell, who was previously approved for a
maternity/disability leave of absence at the May 13, 2013 Board meeting.]
9.
To approve Kelly Brophy for a reduced schedule of 3/5th’s Spanish teacher
assigned to West Essex High School, without benefits, for the 2013/2014 school
year.
10.
To approve the transfer of Melissa D’Angelo from middle school Reading teacher
to high school English teacher.
11.
To approve Lanaya Torres (BA) as a Reading teacher assigned to West Essex
Middle School, at an annual salary of $67,567, which is Step 7 of the 2013/2014
Bachelor’s+15 Degree Teacher’s Salary Guide, effective September 1, 2013
through June 30, 2014.
[NOTE: Ms. Torres replaces Melissa D’Angelo, who was transferred.]
12.
To approve a maternity/disability leave of absence for Melissa D’Angelo, English
teacher assigned to West Essex Regional High School, beginning on or about
November 11, 2013 through June 30, 2014, with a return date of September 1,
2014.
13.
To approve Dolores Vujaklija (BA) as a leave replacement English teacher
assigned to West Essex High School, at an annual salary of $54,212, pro-rated,
which is Step A of the 2013/2014 Bachelor’s Degree Teacher’s Salary Guide,
effective on or about November 11, 2013 through June 30, 2014.

14.
To approve Janice Emering and Susan Sherman to work five (5) hours each,
between June 24, 2013 and August 31, 2013, planning for implementation of
