Nursery Long Term Plan 2014-15
Autumn 1 (8 weeks 3rd Sept-24th October) Myself
Spring 1 (6 weeks 5th Jan- 13th February) Growing
PSED- SEAL- Self Confidence and Self Awareness changes,
separating from careers, deciding and adhering to class rules inside
and out.
Physical Development (including outdoor) – Self-care/
moving & handling snack time tasks, going to the toilet and
washing hands independently, putting coat on/off independently,
tidying up the classroom, running, chasing games, manoeuvring on
equipment.
Communication and Language- Listening & Attention sitting
on the carpet and listening, joining in with songs and rhymes,
phase 1 letters and sounds.
Mathematics – Number/Shape Space & Measure counting
songs, introductions to 2D shapes, building blocks, jigsaws,
numbers to five.
Understanding the world- People and Communities/
Technology beginning to develop friendships and understand a
sense of self.
Literacy –,Reading/Writing, listening to stories,
begins explore computers and interactive whiteboard mark
making.
Expressive arts and design – Exploring & Using Media &
Materials/Being Imaginative joins in with songs, explores
instruments, and investigates the creative area.
PSED- SEAL-Managing Feelings and Behaviour/ Making
Relationships Getting on and falling out, forming relationships
with special friends, resolving conflicts, initiating play.
Physical Development (including outdoor) – Selfcare/moving & handling Recreating stories outside, turning
pages, begin to use tripod grip on pencils, copying familiar letters,
using tools efficiently, climbing, keeping healthy.
Communication and Language - Speaking/Understanding/
Listening & Attention Phase 1 phonics, revise S A T P I N,
listening and asking questions about stories, repeated refrain,
responds to questions about stories.
Mathematics- Number/Shape Space & Measure counting up
and down to 20, mathematical language during stories, size,
comparing sets more/less.
Understanding the world – The World tadpoles and
butterflies, talk about some things they have observed, develop
and understanding of growth, decay and change over timegrowing plants (beans/sunflowers)
Literacy – Reading/Writing Listens, joins in with stories, listens
with increasing attention, looks at books independently. Talk about
the marks they make. Jack and the Beanstalk, Jasper’s Beanstalk,
Titch, Tiny Seed, Very Hungry Caterpillar, mark making, letter
formation.
Expressive arts and design- Exploring & Using Media &
Materials/Being Imaginative Crafts relating to growing,
textures, role play growing.

Harvest 27thh Oct – learn harvest songs. Eid

Autumn 2 (7 weeks 3rd Nov- 19th Dec) Traditional Tales

Awareness relationships, taking turns, separate from carer,
expresses interests, confident in new social situations.
Physical Development (including outdoor) Self-care/
moving & handling Ring games, running safely and skillfully,
balancing, Christmas/ Diwali themed dancing, dressing and
undressing in cold weather, building a bridge, recreating stories
outside.
Communication and LanguageSpeaking/Understanding/Listening & Attention
communicating own needs, following directions and instructions,
talking about stories, phase 1 phonics, possibly introduce S A T P I
N.
Mathematics- Number/Shape Space & Measure Counting
songs, Christmas counting, positional language, patterns (rangoli),
counting to 10, size linked to tales.
Understanding the world- People and Communities/
Celebrations, trips and visits- Storyteller to visit-Winston.

Spring 2 (6 weeks 23th Feb- 27th March ) Animals
PSED- SEAL, Making Relationships relationships, responding to
what others say, is forming good relationships, demonstrating
positive relationships.
Physical Development (including outdoor) moving &
handling Animal movements, show preferences for dominant
hand.
Forming letters correctly, dancing, moving freely with confidence in
various ways.
Communication and Language- Speaking/Understanding
Recognises and responding to sounds. Asks questions/gives
explanations. Builds vocabulary. Retell events in order.
Mathematics-, Number/Shape Space & Measure time, 2D
shapes making patterns and models, animal sorting, number
recognition, ordering 0-10 (20) positional language
Understanding the world- The World/Technology talk about
observations, notice change, concern for living things. Using
simple ICT equipment eg camera, stereo
Summer 1 (5 weeks 13th April- 22nd May) People Who
Help Us.
PSED- SEAL- Self Confidence and Self Awareness/ Making
Relationships friends and adults who help us, our familiespeople who help us at home. How we can help ourselves,
becoming independent.
Physical Development (including outdoor) – Self-care/
moving & handling Dressing up clothes- fastening our clothes.
Imaginative play, writing, people who help us. Running skillfully
and negotiate space, ball manipulation.
Communication and LanguageSpeaking/Understanding/Listening & Attention Letters and
sounds phase 1 and 2 together, maintain attention, sitting quietly.
Confidence to speak in a large group.
Mathematics- Number/Shape Space & Measure 2D and 3D
shapes, estimating, comparisons, recognising numbers on buses
and trams, daily routines and time numbers number ID and order
Understanding the world- People and Communities Shows
an interest in different occupations, talks about significant events
e.g. the doctors, talks about parents’ jobs.
Literacy- Reading/Writing Information books, stories about
jobs, enjoying books independently, posters/pamphlets, sound ID,
mark making, letter formation, name writing?
Expressive arts and design- Exploring & Using Media &
Materials/Being Imaginative Superhero’s, role plays- imitating
people who help us and building stories around this, making tools
e.g hospital equipment.
Celebrations, trips and visits- Korea Children’s day 5th May,
visit from policeman, fireman, visit library.

Communication and Language - Understanding/Listening
& Attention Letters and sounds phase 1 and 2 together, starting
to form two channeled attention.
Mathematics – Number/Shape Space & Measure Select
numerals from 5/10 objects, gives 1 more/less than a given
number, measuring length and height.
Understanding the world- People and Communities/ The
World/Technology Types of sea creatures, showing care and
concern for living things, looks closely at change around them and
