Come join us for a lively evening filled with
laughter and love! This annual banquet benefits
the Children’s Home Society of SD and promises
lots of fun and auction opportunities. Relax and
visit with your friends while enjoying some
refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. Then enjoy a
delicious dinner served up by some rather
comedic characters. Eight special guests will be
joining us from the PGA and of course the CHS
kids will be there to treat us to a couple of music
selections they’ve been practicing just for you.
There’s a silent auction, live auction and a raffle
as well! So, mark the date and invite your friends to live a little, laugh a lot and show your
love for kids in need. Attire for the evening is business casual. Questions? Contact Tom
Roberts at (605) 965-3138 or [email protected].

Music & Art for CHS Kids!
A Special Challenge – “Hearts for the Arts!”
As much as possible, Children’s Home Society is committed to providing the children in its care—and who attend the
CHS school—the same kinds of educational opportunities that are available to children in public schools.
For the first time in CHS history, and thanks to a start-up grant in 2008 from the FISHBACK FINANCIAL
CORPORATION COMMUNITY FUND, a part-time art teacher, and a part-time music teacher are now part of the
teaching staff at Sioux Falls Children’s Home School! This $150,000 grant is intended to fund these two part-time
positions for 3-4 years. (About $50,000 per year, for two teachers & supplies.)
In the meantime, CHS has a goal to grow a Creative Arts Endowment Fund that will sustain these teaching positions
once the grant funds have been used. Earnings from a $1 million fund would sustain, and forever secure the art and
music program at Sioux Falls Children’s Home.
Progress toward this goal has been made. Funds raised to date are $398,477. But because of economic conditions
and other funding priorities, (or barring a miracle!) the goal will most likely not be reached by the time grants funds
run out. So—as work continues toward this endowment goal, the need for interim funding for the art and music
program is drawing closer.
We are hoping our friends will consider a gift to either cause—to the Creative Arts Endowment, or to interim funding
that will sustain the art and music program, until the Endowment goal is reached.
Would you please consider helping us? There will be an opportunity to participate in this challenge during “Evening
for the Kids”, or gifts would be gratefully received even after the event.
The Creative Arts help children:
Express themselves in a positive way
Cultivate their musical or artistic talent
Use their imaginations to problem-solve
Develop social skills and teamwork
Build self-confidence
Broaden their education
Have a positive outlet for free time
Carry artistic interests into adulthood
Have fun!
Notes from teachers…
“Doug had the lead role in our Christmas program. Doug is very quiet, and not very confident. We all really
wondered how he would manage all the lines he had to learn and be able to deliver them. But he was a star!—and
his personality was perfect for the role. I believe this was one in a whole series of successful experiences that has
helped Doug to really grow.”
“A couple of months ago the kids were drawing. Josh looked up from the drawing he was working on and said, ‘I can
really think when I draw. The answers to Jen’s questions just started popping out of my head.’ (Jen is Josh’s
therapist.)

GOLF SOMERBY
Head east on I-90 to Rochester, MN for the perfect get-away! On a gently rolling canvas dotted with thick stands of
trees, meandering creeks, and handsome pockets of grassy wetlands, architects John Fought and Tom Lehman
have painted a glorious picture. Impeccable grooming, strategic bunkering, and classic shotmaking options further
define the scene. From the back tees, Somerby stretches 7,209 yeards, providing the low handicap golfer with a
rigorous test of golf. However, Fought and Lehman created the golf course with five sets of tees, giving players of all
abilities a chance at par. While the slope and course ratings tell a story that Somerby will not be conquered easily,
the course is eminently fair.
Somerby, a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary”, features streams, lakes, and wetland areas that are naturallooking, and have very few abutments or hard edges. Natural hillocks are integrated into the golf holes, and are
covered with fescue grasses. Somerby’s tranquil beauty, artfully sculpted bunkers, and immaculate bentgrass
fairways and greens will yield a golf experience that will linger long in your memory.
PACKAGE INCLUDES:
Two foursomes of golf
Two rooms, one night
